David Leckie consulting for Seven

James Warburton has industry veteran consulting staff in part-time capacity.

Industry veteran David Leckie is consulting for Seven in a part-time capacity, according to Sydney Confidential.

Leckie was brought into the fold by CEO James Warburton to consult for a few hours a week, last year.

Warburton said: I’ve been speaking to him regularly since I returned to Seven and have formalised those conversations into a part-time consulting role, where David can act in a mentoring capacity to a small number of key executives in the business.”

Leckie stood down as Seven West Media CEO in 2012, replaced by Tim Worner, but remained a consultant until 2016.

  1. “Nine that lost top spot rather than Seven gaining it” is a bit unfair to Seven who worked hard during the 2000s especially with lead-ins like DOND and news, as well as axing Blue Heelers and establishing hits like Packed to the Rafters and City Homicide as well as relaunching Kath and Kim and getting Lost, Desperate Housewives and Criminal Minds to take it to the 12 or whatever years of dominance that followed.

  2. I worked with. and for David for many years, I can’t think of anyone in Australia with more television knowledge and knowhow. He always ran a very tight ship and didn’t tolerate fools or pretenders. Any Exec should be honoured to get a hour of his insights and experience. It’s a shame that the late Ian Johnson isn’t with us, they made a formidable team.

  3. This is definitely the best industry-related news of the year so far. David Leckie is an icon and is definitely the television’s business brains-trust. Good to see James & David leave their troubled past behind and work collectively to make Seven a powerhouse once more. So, so happy to hear this.

    1. er … nothing against David, but he, like James, is a salesman. He took over 9 when it was already number one, went to 7 when 9 started failing and took the best people with him so it was 9 that lost the top spot rather than 7 gaining it. What 7 needs is some top programming talent, they don’t have it now and David ain’t it. Not sure what he can contribute really.
