Doctor Who confirms festive special due

Warning: Do not read until you’ve seen Season Finale “The Timeless Children.”

The BBC this week confirmed a festive special for Doctor Who is coming later this year.

This follows the cliffhanger ending to “The Timeless Children” episode. The one-off special, “Revolution of the Daleks” will see the return of a classic Who enemy.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall says: “We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you!). There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”

Charlotte Moore, Director BBC Content, says: “I can’t wait for the Doctor to go into battle with the ultimate enemy in this year’s Daleks festive special.”

There is also speculation Bradley Walsh (Graham) and Tosin Cole (Ryan) could be set to depart following the festive special, but possibly continuing in occasional appearances.

Doctor Who season finale airs 8pm Thursday on ABC but has been available at iview since Monday.

  1. A bigger cliffhanger than the mid-season one for The Walking Dead 🙂
Can’t wait for the ‘traditional’ festive season special.
