Foxtel gesture for subscribers during crisis

"We want them to know that Foxtel is there for them," says CEO as more content, broadband & multiscreen is made available.

Foxtel has announced a series of initiatives for subscribers who are housebound due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Foxtel Group Chief Executive Officer Patrick Delany said: “We have heard from our customers that during these challenging times, one of the things that really makes a difference is being able to keep the whole family entertained, informed and connected as they settle in at home.

“We’re all in this together and we want them to know that Foxtel is there for them. These initiatives provide customers with an even better entertainment experience in their homes with more content, access on more screens and more data, all at no extra charge.”

Effective from today until 31 May, Foxtel customers will have access to:

 More content with access to Foxtel’s full range of Drama, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Documentaries, Reality and Kids2 TV channels and on demand libraries.
 Customers will have access to Multiscreen, giving expanded access to watch on up to two additional devices at the same time including casting the Foxtel GO4 app to additional TVs.
 Foxtel Now customers will have Drama Extra, Docos, Pop, Lifestyle and Kids added to their Essentials, Pop or Lifestyle packs.
 Unlimited broadband data for all Foxtel Broadband and Foxtel nbn customers who are on monthly data allowances for streaming and home internet without limits.

“With these changes we are making thousands of hours of additional live and on demand content available to our customers. I want to acknowledge the support we have received from all our content partners to make this happen including Discovery, BBC Studios, ViacomCBS, Turner, NBC Universal and National Geographic,” Delany continued.

“This is also a time when staying informed is more important than ever. All our customers will have access to Foxtel’s full range of news services including Sky News and the dedicated Sky News COVID-19 news channel along with international news from CNN, FOX News, BBC World News, Sky News UK, CNBC and Bloomberg Television.

“For kids who are spending more time at home, the additional range of documentary content including BBC Earth and National Geographic will help them continue to learn more about the world around us.

“Our call centres are working hard to prioritise callers with an immediate need and we appreciate our customers’ patience and support as we navigate the current challenges ourselves.”

The initiatives are available to Foxtel customers including those that subscribe to Foxtel
through Telstra and Optus.

The additional content means customers will have more to watch as they settle in to enjoy the world’s best entertainment across multiple genres.

This includes new series such as Mrs America starring Cate Blanchett and Rose Byrne, mystery thriller Devs and new seasons of Westworld, The Walking Dead, Outlander, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Selling Houses Australia, Cosmos: Possible Worlds and The Great British Bake Off.

Customers will also be able to catch up on entire seasons and box sets of recent hit series such as Game of Thrones, Succession, Tim Minchin’s Upright and His Dark Materials, along with comedy evergreens including Friends, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and Seinfeld.

Customers do not need to activate the changes. The additional tiers of content, multiscreen and unlimited broadband will be opened up by Foxtel this morning allowing customers to enjoy the premium content and features immediately until 31 May.

Foxtel remains focused on on keeping customers connected and urges customers to visit the updated support pages for any non-urgent queries as we try to prioritise service for those in immediate need. Online services are available at foxtel.com.au/update.

  1. As I pay for all content anyway (I have a stuck-at-home disability and like a big choice of TV), their offer to me is zero. Apart from Multiscreen, but I don’t have software to make that work. And I don’t need it, I can only watch one TV set at a time.
If they wanted to help me, a customer since 1998, how about a discount on the subscription fees for, say, three months or longer?

    1. Depends on what packages you currently have. We have an iQ2 and now get in addition to what we had last night
      – Access to Drama, Kids and Documentaries
      – Access to Foxtel on my LG OLED TV in another which includes live Foxtel channels and on demand

This is a huge free gift for us from Foxtel. Its hard for them to do a package that suits everyone but I imagine a lot of people will be benefiting from what they are now offering and a small portion won’t be.

        1. Why? Stan do. Netflix do. It costs more for a HD TV than it does for a SD TV. To be fair though, anyone paying anything close to full price for Foxtel should ring cancellations (once things get back to normal) and get a better price so it becomes a mute point.

  2. Movies due for theatrical release are being rented out on Disney+ and also Netflix, so Foxtel are only following a trend which you have to say had been imposed upon the Movie and Pay TV industry by the closure of public facilities like cinemas.
In Foxtel’s case the virtual closure of Fox Sports live sports broadcasting will be losing them subscribers, Foxtels future could be at risk.

  3. That’s pretty generous. I don’t get any of that on the $10 mini pack but I’m not surprised considering I only pay $10 a month. Would have been nice to get at least one of those packs since I was paying over $80 a month for close to seven years but I can’t really complain.

    1. Did you confirm that with Foxtel? There’s nothing in the T&Cs about those with the Mini Pack not being eligible, and I still received the text message and email to say my service has been upgraded.

  4. Yes Patrick, that’s all very well…but the real question here is ” Are subscribers there for Foxtel ? ”

I think without the Sport …the answer is always going to be a big fat No….

    1. There are millions of people like me that hate sport. Foxtel did give me the sports pack free for a year a while ago since I was with them for so long but I didn’t watch a single thing on it.

      1. Same with me Max. I actually called Foxtel and thanked them for the free sport, but asked if I could swap this for HD for 12 months instead. They happily obliged. When that 12 months ends next month, I will be calling to cancel HD.

  5. This is quite generous of Foxtel, especially considering their broader financial position.

Was going to switch from Sport to Documentaries and Drama today so won’t need to do that now. Plenty of movies in our Blu-Ray / UHD disc collection and on other streaming platforms to watch so not too fussed about not getting movies.
