Friends reunion delayed in US

Special due to be filmed next week hopes to reschedule from May.

Cue the theme song, “I’ll Be There For You…”

The high-profile Friends reunion special is being delayed by HBO Max.

The Hollywood Reporter claims the unscripted special was set to be filmed next Monday and Tuesday on the show’s former home at Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank.

But given the coronavirus pandemic, production has reportedly been delayed until at least May.

A formal filming date has not been determined as it’s unclear when any programming will be able to resume production.

The special is due to be part of an upcoming HBO Max streaming service. It’s unclear if the Friends reunion will now be available when HBO Max launches.

Representatives for HBO Max and producers Warner Bros. TV declined to comment.

An Australian broadcaster was yet to be announced.

  1. Interestingly, it had the same effect in America directly after 9/11 happened. It’s ratings rose significantly as people during a traumatic time went looking for light relief on TV.

  2. In the last week, in moments when news reports and social media has triggered some anxiety, an episode or two of Friends has been the perfect calmer.
