Planet America

Television shows are now beginning to adopt “social distancing” on camera as the coronavirus pandemic grips the nation.

For television -which has historically been dependent on a camera ‘two-shot’-  this is particularly challenging.

The Drum

While panel shows may be able to be creative in this approach, it’s far more difficult for genres such as Drama and Reality TV.

But not all shows last night had begun to adopt the practice as yet.

Already reeling from a lack of studio audiences, social distancing on screen becomes simply their latest challenge.

Like all of us, they will need some time to adjust to this evolving situation.

  1. Awkward watching how far Steven Quartermaine was from Jennifer Kyte last on Ten News First in Melbourne last night.

Next they’ll do sport from a different studio

  2. After watching Planet America, I am beginning to believe the way to be an “expert” in American Politics on Australian TV is to have watched a couple of seasons of the West Wing.

  3. I dont think distancing is necessary for panel shows where you work with the same people all the time. You’re already sharing the office with them, the studio doesnt make a difference.
