Two charges dropped against Craig McLachlan

Two of 16 charges dropped in trial over former Doctor Blake star.

Two of 16 charges brought against actor Craig McLachlan have been dropped.

A hearing in the trial of The Rocky Horror Show star resumed yesterday to discuss the admissibility of arguments and evidence.

Prosecutors formally withdrew two of 16 charges – indecent assault and an alternative charge of common assault.

14 other charges relate to behaviour during the 2014 stage production. None are linked to his most recent series The Doctor Blake Mysteries.

Craig McLachlan’s lawyer Stuart Littlemore said some of the alleged offending did not happen and denied there was anything indecent about the actor’s actions.

But Prosecutor Matt Fisher said all the women testified that they did not consent to the alleged physical contact and the alleged actions were not part of the show.

Magistrate Belinda Wallington is set to rule next month.

Defence lawyers will continue to outline their evidence when the hearing resumes in April.

McLachlan has previously launched defamation action against the ABC, the publisher formerly known as Fairfax Media and a former co-star Christie Whelan Browne.
