Did Pooch Perfect meet network expectations?

Last December Seven made predictions about audience growth for its pet series.

The problem with making predictions around ratings numbers is it may not come true.

In December Seven announced that Pooch Perfect would lift its timeslot by 5% in People aged 25-54 (in fact it originally made a typo referring to a “timeslow”).

But Seven’s forecast was down by around 20%.

25-54s

Seven’s timeslot also varied for the show, sometimes at  7:30 – 9pm and others at 8pm – 9:30pm.

Seven declined to comment.

Consolidated for Episode 8 is not yet available.

  1. I don’t care what anybody says, I liked it. Mainly because it was different. Where else in the history of television have we been able to sit for an hour and a half and watched dogs being groomed. Sensational! As for the compere. Since her big court case win I never really liked her, but this show changed that. Funny jokes with a co-compere dog called Russell?. I have really warmed to her dry sense of humour. Amazing TV. And I marvelled at the way the contestants stood still and let their groomers do unspeakable things to them. Nary a complaint to be heard. Marvellous.

  2. Seven made a rod for their back by telling sponsors that the show would improve the ratings by 5%. Whose idea was that? It’s a bit like the woman with a crystal ball in the tent at the show predicting the future. Seven was going through a very strange period back then. They initially axed Sydney Weekender, a show that had its production costs paid for by the tourism authorities and was bringing in oodles of money from the destinations and restaurants featured in the show. Pooch Perfect reminds me of their other disaster from a few years back, Yummy Mummies, and if we see Rebel and the dogs again next year I will be very surprised.

  3. Seven is really off the ball with choosing talent the past couple of years…whoever thought Rebel Wilson was a million dollar drawcard needs to talk to real people away from their ivory tower, and whoever wrote the lame slightly ” off ” jokes for her needs to find a new job … the show had disaster written all over it but in Seven’s under siege Programming department they thought this pile of doggy doo had ” hit ” written all over it.
Well it did sort of, but unfortunately the “hit” was missing an S in front.

  4. I not only find Wilson not funny and never have, but I now find her unwatchable. I gave this a go, and aside from how inane the entire project was, she was not someone to warm to as a host.

  5. Brilliant subject hosted by a charismatic and beloved Aussie star. It should have worked. But the harsh reality is, it was badly produced. Maybe Channel 7 should replace the production team (especially at the top) and try again?

      1. I kind of do have to agree with many. Yes, i applaud her success overseas, and her fame in the US with her many movie roles, but i just cant warm towards her, as a presenter.

  6. I assume that episode 4 (and maybe all those figures) timeslot figure is across all of Seven? I’m sure thats when the show aired on 7two in some states and didn’t even get that figure in total people.

  7. The only reason 7 declined to comment is the fact that it was an unmitigated flop , if it were a success they’d be singing praises from the highest rooftop.

  8. I didn’t watch Pooch Perfect but I’m surprised they got it so wrong. I woulda thought an original fun doggo show with a big Aussie talent would’ve had ‘hit’ written all over it.

    1. I agree Mac. When you see shows like ‘dogs that make you laugh’ or whatever they are called, get good numbers, I really thought all the dog lovers would embrace this show. I am a dog lover so oohed and arhhed in the first episode but then I got over it and thought it was pretty silly.

    2. I am a dog lover and a big admirer of Rebel Wilson as a savy business person, but I only saw two episodes of this show and decided that it wasn’t for me. I don’t know what it was – the lame jokes, or my disinterest in the stylist. For me I could just watch the reveal and be satisfied with that – all the rest of this show I could do away with.

      1. As a once off special it might have worked, but why does everything have to drag on in hour and a half episodes, luckily they had some sense and just went with 8 episodes all up, I had a look but wasn’t my thing so moved on after episode 1.
