Foxtel sports subscribers given free movies

Foxtel takes extra steps to cheer sport subscribers who are missing their favourite games.

Foxtel has begun contacting Sport subscribers, who don’t already have the Movies pack, to give them access to Foxtel’s full selection of movie channels and movies on demand until 30 June at no extra charge.

The move provides those Sport subscribers with:

· Foxtel’s 10 dedicated Movies channels – Movies Premiere, Movies Action, Movies Comedy, Movies Drama, Movies Romance, Movies Thriller, Movies Hits, Movies Greats, Movies Family and Movies Kids along with Movies Ultra HD.

· Thousands of hours of movies on demand drawn from Foxtel’s movies catalogue of over 1,000 movies.

· Continued access to sport while major sports codes are on pause with a refreshed sports line up including archive specials, new documentaries, pop-up channels and live shows with the best personalities.

“We know nothing replaces Live sport but we believe the combination of sports archive specials, new documentaries, pop-up channels and live shows together with access to all our movies is a real alternative,”said Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany.

“As Sport subscribers stay safe and settle in at home, we want to make sure they all get to experience the amazing depth and breadth of our movie offering.

“Sports fans around the world are all facing the same problem but I can assure them that live sport will be back and FOX Sports will remain Australia’s home of sport.”

This adds to last week’s steps for Drama, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Documentaries, Reality and Kids TV channels and on demand libraries available to all customers at no extra charge.

All customers have also been given access to Multiscreen, which gives them the ability to cast Foxtel GO on up to two additional screens.

Earlier this week Foxtel has apologised for issues surround its call centres and is working to bring these back up to full strength.

Foxtel’s new sport programming includes:

· Live shows including FOX Footy Live, FOX League Live, the Late Show with Matty Johns plus new episodes of Bounce and The Fan.

· Re-calls of some of the greatest AFL and NRL matches from the past across the weekend with live commentary from our team of experts across FOX Footy and FOX League.

· Documentaries including the premiere of the eight-part Supercars docu-series Inside Line – A Season with Erebus Motorsport.

· Themed pop up channels, such as Great Aussie Wins and The Masters with Fight Week and Rafa and Roger week coming soon.

  1. This is a positive, proactive step as cancelling sport was on my mind with no content available. Sadly for IQ2 box holders we have no access to the on demand library for the Entertainment Plus or Movies packs that have been enabled. We can record, but not download or access the Box Sets etc.

    1. We have an IQ2 box but also have a Foxtel app on the TV so use the IQ2 for watching live TV and recording and the TV app for streamlining / catchup on shows we didn’t record. This app only appears available since Foxtel made multi room free when they also made docos and drama available to all customers (but may have been before). We have a 2018 LG OLED TV but not sure what TVs this Foxtel app is on.

  2. I spent nearly 2 hours on hold on Monday trying to get through to cancel my sports package. No other means to cancel. Not impressed. If I’d wanted Movies, I’d have subscribed to them in the first place

  3. Of course I am a cynic but, Foxtel is just one of many companies ( e.g. Newscorp with their subscritions) giving out freebies to certain groups but absolutely nothing to already full paying subscribers.

I wonder how Kayo subscribers are going?…I believe it’s quite expensive.

    1. Kayo can be cancelled and renewed at any time like just all the well promoted streaming apps available in Australia, you don’t need to call anyone.
It’s part of the attraction for streaming subscribers but you do need to have good NBN coverage available.

  4. I’m a Foxtel subscriber with various packs including Sport. I’ve been given free Movies for a few months and also another pack – Docos or it may be called something else now. Foxtel do seem to be trying to keep people as happy a they can; clearly on a commercial level it makes sense so they don’t lose too many subscribers. Curious though how they would handle me calling up and requesting removal (refund) of Sport package though – given there is virtually zero sport now and for a few months surely they wouldn’t be able to refuse such a request. What experiences have others had in this regard?

    1. It would depend on your original contract I would suspect. If you have a number of months still left on your agreed plan the terms and conditions may apply and you may have an early cancellation fee included on your final invoice.
If you are a long term subscriber you may not need to pay anything.
All of this would have been explained when subscribers sign up.
