Documentary streaming platform iwonder turns its attention to health-related titles in April.

The Coronavirus pandemic has made us all reassess the steps we take to look after ourselves and safeguard the health of others. Each year, April plays host to a number of crucial health-related awareness raising initiatives, including: World Health Day, World Immunization Week, World Autism Awareness Day and World Malaria Day.

To support the global effort to inform and educate people, new to iwonder this April come three compelling films from different perspectives on the battle to prevent, manage or cure ailments and afflictions that affect millions of people around the globe. As well as our top five films on attitudes to healthcare, from methods of preventing disease and prolonging life, through to the incredible work done by hospitals.

Beyond the Spectrum April 2
When their two-year-old son, Oskar, is diagnosed with severe autism, Carly and Stef drop everything for a year to focus on his treatment. As they strive to connect with Oskar, they must confront an impossible question: should they try to change him or accept their son just the way he is? Several adults with autism share their personal experiences and help us gain insight into Oskar’s world.

Breathless April 7
Filmmaker Daniel Lambo sets off on a passionate quest to find the truth about the deadly asbestos industry. His search takes him to the largest asbestos waste dump in India and unveils a cold-blooded industry still endangering the lives of workers and consumers around the world.

Ending Disease April 23
Ending Disease follows the personal stories of patients in this first generation of FDA-approved clinical trials for stem cell, CAR-T cell, antibody, and gene therapies. Taking the viewer through an emotional journey, weaving powerful human stories on the frontier of medical science, Ending Disease shows the hardships and triumphs of patients risking everything in the pursuit of a medical breakthrough. With unprecedented access to ten of the first clinical trials using regenerative medicine, the stories of these patients show how we are moving therapies from chemo, radiation, surgeries and a lifetime of treatment, to making medicine less expensive, less toxic and most importantly, curative.

  1. Still find it baffling that 7plus don’t include the listings for this and their other streaming only channels. Unless you go and check every couple of hours to see what is on now and next, users are in the dark as to what is on!
