Screen Australia boosts funding for premium drama

'Premium Plus' development funding is targeted towards production ready with market interest.

Screen Australia is increasing the funding allocation to the Story Development: Premium fund.

The move was prefaced by CEO Graeme Mason in statements last week.

The extra ‘Premium Plus’ funds will be targeted towards:

  • Higher-budget productions that are close to being production ready with firm market interest.
  • Episodic scripted drama, however film and online productions will also be considered.

These productions will be able to request development funds for items beyond producer/writer fees.

Other initiatives Story Development Generate and Premium continue as normal.

Any producers with projects that are already in advanced stage development and have firm market interest, who have not already been in touch with Head of Development Nerida Moore in the past fortnight, should email [email protected] before putting in an application.

The Premium fund was established in 2018 to develop scripted projects of ambition and scale with demonstrable market viability, from creators with a track record of success.

In 2018/19 the total financing through the Story Development: Premium fund was $1.45m. For 2019/20 the budget allocation has been increased to $3.4m.
