Screenwest assist for WA production sector

With almost all screen production on hold in WA, funding body takes action to support producers.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Screenwest has announced a $2.5m sustainability package from existing funding provided by the State Government through Lotterywest.

With almost all screen production put on hold for the foreseeable future in WA, the package will be delivered in addition to funding already committed.

Key elements of the package to be launched with immediate effect include:

The Bright Ideas Crew Capacity Initiative
– A funding boost to existing Screenwest Development Programs
– Re-purposing and funding boost to the On Demand Content Fund
Taking Care of Business – Production Company and Producer Support Package

In the coming weeks, a suite of Talent Development and Diversity initiatives will also be launched to support the sustainability and development of the industry during this period.

This funding support aims to complement and enhance Federal and State Government assistance packages, with WA screen sector specific support targeted to the areas of the industry which have been hit the hardest with job and income loss, in addition to production companies and producers who are the most significant drivers within the industry. Screenwest aims to keep as many members of the WA Screen Industry as possible working, developing and re-purposing their projects, skill sets and businesses through the current crisis, with a mid to long term goal of having a more resilient screen sector in place when the current crisis eases.
