Airdate: Tommy

Update: New US police drama starring Edie Falco coming to 10.

New US police drama Tommy, starring Edie Falco as LA Police Chief Abigail “Tommy” Thomas, will screen on 10 from early June.

The series will come to Wednesdays, after The Secrets She Keeps wraps.

The cast also stars Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom, Life In Pieces) and Aussie Adelaide Clemens (Love My Way, Rectify, The Great Gatsby).

Aussie Kate Dennis -who has also directed on Run and The Handmaid’s Tale– directed episode one.

The series by writer Paul Attanasio (Bull, Homicide: Life On The Street, House) premiered in the US in February but has already been axed by CBS.

A former high-ranking NYPD officer who becomes the first female chief of police for Los Angeles, Tommy must use her unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to keep social, political and national security issues from hindering effective law control in her new home town.

Tommy steps into her new job surrounded by her predecessor’s staff including Blake Sullivan, played by Brisbane-born actress Adelaide Clemens, the polished and confident press secretary who is eager to earn Tommy’s trust.

You may recognise Adelaide from X-Men Originals: Wolverine, The Great Gatsby and the BBC’s Parade’s End, but she got her start in the critically acclaimed Australian drama Love My Way back in 2007. Adelaide also starred in Silent Hill: Revelation 3D with Kit Harrington and the independent film Generation Um… alongside Keanu Reeves.

Tommy also stars Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom, Life In Pieces) as the guy responsible for hiring Tommy, Mayor Buddy Gray.

Also on Tommy’s team are Chief of Staff Donn Cooper (Russell G. Jones), a savvy cop with good instincts and the ability to be discreet; Ken Rosey (Michael Chernus), an idealistic speechwriter and former attorney and Abner Diaz (Vladimir Caamaño), a fellow street-smart New York cop, as part of her personal security team. Buddy relies on the political instincts of his deputy mayor, Doug Dudik (Joseph Lyle Taylor), a slick operative with questionable morals who is wary of Tommy’s growing influence. Now that Tommy is in L.A., she has a second chance at a relationship with her adult daughter, Kate Jones (Olivia Lucy Phillip), who still faults her mother for choosing career over family many years ago.

Equal parts political, procedural and family drama, Tommy comes from Paul Attanasio, the creator of Bull and Homicide: Life On The Street. Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Tom Szentgyorgyi, Christine Moore and Kate Dennis (pilot only) also serve as executive producers alongside Attanasio.

Tommy is a CBS Television Studios production in association with Atelier Paul Attanasio and Amblin Partners. The series is distributed internationally by ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group.

Update: 8:40pm Wednesday
