TV Tonight can reveal Seven will have a Free to Air premiere of hit 2018 thriller Bodyguard.

The World Productions drama was produced for BBC but falls under ITV Studios distribution. It premiered in Australia on Netflix to rave reviews. In the UK it broke viewing records.

Such word of mouth will mean many who don’t subscribe to the streaming service would be well aware of its success.

Written by Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty) the series stars Richard Madden & Keeley Hawes.

It will premiere later this month.

After distinguishing himself by courageously neutralising a terrorist threat, troubled war veteran ​Police Sergeant David Budd (Richard Madden) of the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Branch (RaSP) is assigned as a Principal Protection Officer to the Home Secretary, the Rt. Hon. Julia Montague, MP (Keeley Hawes). Julia is a controversial politician intent on pushing a new counter terrorism bill through Parliament which would give the Security Service enhanced surveillance powers. Her political ambitions make Julia a high profile target. Dedicated to his job but concealing deep resentment of politicians following his traumas in Helmand, David’s divided loyalties might make him Julia’s greatest threat.

  1. I am pleased that I have seen it, on Netflix. Good yarn, could be spoilt if peppered withSeven’s relentless ad placement. I hate the same ad repeated over and over again, it happens a lot of the catch up services. So will Seven have this on their Catch Up service and Netflix as normal or will it go from Netflix ?

  2. Thoroughly enjoyed this, another British program I have really enjoyed recently is Gangs of London, one of the best shows I have seen in years. I wonder if that will get a FTA showing at all? With the graphic scenes it may not or be edited so much that it loses its appeal

  3. I guess FTA broadcasters may benefit from any dramas which get a second window after their pay TV broadcast in the months ahead, and indeed that may be an extra revenue stream for their original broadcasters too.

    This is well worth a watch – think it was the most watched drama in Britain this century.

  4. I’ve seen it on Netflix obviously but it started to wane a bit but picked up ,once is enough for me and no way would I watch it on one of the most commercial saturated networks on FTA.

  5. As they say, it’s only a ‘repeat’ if you’ve already seen it before etc. I have seen it – and it’s a great watch. It gets more than a little implausible in parts – and particularly as the series moves to its climax – but its a highly entertaining ride. And the two leads are fantastic! Many won’t have seen yet and will love it.

    1. I find that Mercurio’s recent writing on Line Of Duty has tended to have thin premises and implausible plotting. Cardiac Arrest and Bodies were a lot of fun though.
