Carrie Coon joins The Gilded Age

Carrie Coon replaces Amanda Peet on period drama penned by Julian Fellowes.

Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Fargo) has joined upcoming US drama The Gilded Age, replacing Amanda Peet, due to scheduling issues.

The Julian Fellowes drama is billed as an ‘American Downton‘ …..“an epic tale of the princes of the American Renaissance and the vast fortunes made – and spent – in late 19th century New York.”

The cast also includes Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Denée Benton, Louisa Jacobson, Taissa Farmiga, Blake Ritson, Simon Jones, Harry Richardson, Thomas Cocquerel and Jack Gilpin.

The series was originally announced for NBC as far back as 2013 and due to screen in 2018. With production shutdown it is now flagged to begin filming in the US Fall.

The Gilded Age is due to screen in Australia on 10.

  1. Word leaked in 2012 that Fellows was working on it, prompting rumours that Downton Abbey was to finish soon. Fellows said he has started working on the show for NBC so it would be ready to start production for NBC. It was about the rise of the rich industrialists New York and was supposed to explain where Cora’s family money came from, and feature and appearance of the young Violet Crawley.

    In 2016 everything was reworked, but scripts were still not written. Universal ended up selling it to HBO. Universal must have retained the global distribution rights and have sold it to Ten.
