Elim-munity for MasterChef’s Dani

She took her chances in a 20-person cook off but Dani Venn went home with an Immunity pin.

What are the odds?

MasterChef Australia‘s Dani Venn has experienced every contestant’s worst nightmare – being eliminated while holding an Immunity pin.

The only pin on offer for the entire series.

She took her chances against 19 other contestants in Sunday’s cook-off, deciding to hold onto the prized pin. The first round challenge involved an open pantry cook as it was crunchy and delicious. But she landed in the bottom five for a second round alongside Callum, Hayden, Brendan and Khanh.

For a dish that must serve up the ‘goo’ her son-in-law eggs were under-cooked, sending her home with pin intact.

Callum Haan was spared from elimination.

“Of course, on reflection, I could have used it [but] I think what I’m more upset about is… I could have cooked a different dish!” she said.

“I didn’t play the pin because I felt like if I’m going to play the pin at this point in the competition there’s not really much point in me being there,” she told 10 Daily, “there’s still 20 people in the competition.”

2018’s Loki Madireddi was the first MasterChef Australia contestant in history to go home with their immunity pin.

  1. The show has been very inconsistent over the years and even in the same season about whether they give the ‘immunity pin’ contestant the chance to use the pin before or after revealing what the challenge actually is. It’s not really an advantage if they ask her if she wants to use the pin before telling her what the challenge is. The show should always inform the ‘immunity pin’ contestant what the challenge is so they can actually use it strategically. If Dani knew it was a crunchy challenge and had no good ideas, then she could’ve made a more informed decision.

    1. One could argue she could have even been given the chance to use it ahead of round 2? And then left the other four to fight it out.

Effectively worthless as it was – unless you had a bad night’s sleep why would you use it when it was a 1 in 19 chance of going home?

    1. I would hope so, If only to shake up the format a bit. I’m surprised audiences have been able sit thru 2x 90min episodes that culminate in something as inconsequential as one person (out of 20+) getting immunity from one elimination.

  2. Was watching it my wife last night.. she gasped and said “is that even possible?” Then a few seconds later she said “at least she went home with some kind of silverware”

David, I was wondering if Ten let’s her keep her immunity pin?
