Poland govt gives greenlight for film, TV to resume production

European country sets rules as it allows industry to move forward.

Poland’s government has given the greenlight for film and TV production to resume on May 18 following shutdown due to coronavirus.

Crew members will have to wear masks, and actors will have to social distance from the crew. There are also rules on the number of people allowed on set – depending on the nature of the production, and clusters of crew are discouraged.

They reflect similar steps taken on Australian dramas.

Among the projects that recently shot there are an adaptation of Netflix thriller The Woods and World War II miniseries The Turncoat.

Upcoming projects include Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest, which is being co-produced and distributed in the U.S. by A24, and Rhino, a new movie by Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov.

Poland has suffered over 17,000 COVID-19 cases and 861 deaths.

  1. Having recently watched two seasons of the Polish series ‘The Pact’ on Foxtel Now, Poland do make some excellent productions, though they can be dour.
The re-start of some productions will take a while to gain some momentum, so how producers will get around the COVID-19 health protocols in various countries will be an important factor moving forward, especially for those shows with a large following, and some long term favourites still waiting to get their delayed finales screened.
