The stars of 2012 “Marilyn” musical Smash recently reunited virtually for a streaming event: Bombshell in Concert.

The event includes the entire never-seen live performance of Bombshell in Concert that was staged on Broadway to rave reviews in 2015.

The cast includes Christian Borle, Jack Davenport, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, Katharine McPhee, and Debra Messing.

The evening was introduced by Renée Zellweger and, during intermission, Julie Klausner of Difficult People.

In 2012, Megan Hilty told TV Tonight, the Bombshell songs cleverly mirrored Marilyn Monroe’s life as well as those of the Smash characters.

“Not only are the songs appropriate for the Marilyn musical but lyrically they support whatever’s going on in the character’s life for whoever is singing it,” she said.

“So they’re kind of doing double duty lyrically with all of their songs.

“It was (composer) Scott Wittman’s idea to focus on Marilyn for the musical because he saw how many plotlines could be mirrored in the character’s lives. It’s quite ingenious, actually.”

In addition to the reunion news, Bombshell is now itself the subject a possible of full Broadway staging.

“I’ll be there with my 16-bars, I’m ready to audition,” Katharine McPhee told Broadway.com in reaction to the news. “The fans are going to go wild—this makes me really happy. I’m thinking about the whole cast’s reaction to this: they’re going to be so excited. It’s going to be the best opening night ever!”

Development of Smash: A New Musical is underway.
