What is Australia’s favourite binge?

Survey says, what's been your favourite Aussie show or movie during lockdown?

To help highlight Australian production during the current shutdown, the MEAA is asking Aussies to vote in The Great Australian Binge.

Michala Banas (McLeod’s Daughters, Upper Middle Bogan) said, “This is a chance to celebrate the amazing Aussie shows and films that’ve been getting us through this pandemic and all the people who make them.

“Be it a gripping drama, an iconic comedy, a classic Australian movie, your favourite kids’ show, so-bad-it’s-good reality TV, or an awesome web series – you can vote for whatever has meant the most to you, especially during this time in lockdown. For me, I just bawled my eyes out as I devoured Stateless, and subsequently helped lift my spirits again with some of my favourite classic episodes of Kath and Kim.”

“There are so many people out there who want to show their love for the Australian arts and entertainment industry right now. The Great Australian Binge is just a small way to celebrate our favourite Aussie films and TV shows, and to spread the love, which our industry really really needs at the moment. We want to make sure there’s a local screen industry still standing when this is all over.” says Banas.

The Great Australian Binge comes off the back of the screen industry’s Make it Australian campaign, calling on the federal government to keep the current local content quotas and introduce local content quotas for streaming services. It is backed by the entire screen sector, including MEAA, Screen Producers Australia, the Australian Writers Guild and the Australian Directors Guild.

The Great Australian Binge will give those who vote the chance to sign a petition calling on Arts Minister Paul Fletcher to do more to support the people who make the entertainment Australia loves. Despite mounting evidence that the coronavirus has devastated the arts and entertainment industry, the Morrison government has failed to provide significant financial support to the sector.

Voting closes 11:59pm AEST Sunday May 17.

  1. Whizzing through The Heights….I am not normally a ‘binger’…..
I have 3 episodes to go of Series 1…..Loving it…I have always been a Marcus Graham fan.

  2. I don’t binge, as I have enough shows on fta, Foxtel and even Youtube to keep me busy. I watched and enjoyed Stateless. Have been getting into tens series Bull, FBI and FBI Most Wanted and watching The Secrets She Keeps and Mystery Road. Hidden gem is the original Lassie series (Jeffs Collie) on YouTube, really well produced and a must for any animal lover. All the while keeping busy with Days of our Lives and Neighbours which haven’t run out of episodes during lockdown.

  3. Spiral S7, Agatha Christie’s Criminal Games S3. Except I don’t binge them, I watch 1 or 2 a week. They were on public Australian TV, but SBS is only streaming them now.

  4. Unfortunately, unless I I’m doing something wrong, it appears that this “Survey” is nothing more than a vehicle to get signatures on the survey, as, unless you fill in the survey, you can’t vote.

  5. I haven’t binged any Aussie shows lately. I’m currently watching Extra Curricular (Netflix), Sex Education (Netflix), Kim’s Convienance, 1/2 through S4 (Netflix). I watched Extraction (Netflix) and loved it.

    1. Also add Too Hot Too Handle (Netflix), saw it on Gogglebox then only wanted to watch 1 episode, but couldn’t resist, so watched the whole season.

  6. In the last seven days alone, I’ve binged complete seasons of : Black Books (Netflix), Transformers Cyberverse (Netflix), After Life (Netlix), High Fidelity (iView), You Can’t Ask That (iView) and The Micallef Programme (DVD boxset – 3 seasons). Having a massive ironing pile has helped.
