Axed: Live PD

Another policing show in the US ends, at 4 seasons.

US police observational Live PD, which screens in Australia on 9RUSH, has been axed by A&E after 4 seasons.

The series follows police officers in the course of their patrols, via live video feeds from multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.

Episodes were pulled recently following the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota, but A&E has now cancelled the series outright.

A&E said in a statement, “This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD. Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them. And with that, we will be meeting with community and civil rights leaders as well as police departments.”

An Austin newspaper reported the crew also filmed the death of a Black man while he was in the custody of law enforcement officers in Texas, the footage of which was subsequently destroyed.

This week the long-running Cops was axed after 33 seasons.

  1. This is great news. I had no idea the coercive powers and underhanded tactics this and Cops used. These shows have profited off of marginalised communities and not affording proper justice to people presented on these shows. There’s no follow up, apologies etc for those coerced into being filmed and often the editing impacts on innocent people, painting them as guilty before due process is allowed to transpire. Have a listen to the Running From Cops podcast to get the behind the scenes look. Worth a listen especially at this time.

    1. There was no editing involved in the show, it was filmed live as it was actually happening, there was a short delay of 10-15 mins to allow swearing to be beeped out but that was all. The reason the show was pulled was because it showed the reality of policing, what they had to put up with and how they really treated people, something that did not suit the agendas of the anti-police movement in the US.

  2. I’m getting quite sick of the ‘police bashing’ that is going on in the US & the world at the moment…

Another victim of this ridiculous outcry

    1. ‘Live PD’ erased footage of the death of a black man in police custody in Austin, TX. The case is still under investigation 15 months later

      1. Live PD only keep footage they shoot for 28 days, they were requested to keep the footage in question for an additional 3 months which they did, they were then instructed at the end of the 3 months that there was no case to answer and that the footage could be destroyed. All police dash cam and body cam footage is still available of the incident and no charges were brought.

    2. From The Front page on Sky News just now, the banner on the front page of the Daily Telegraph tomorrow is “Gone With the Whinge” along with an image of the GWTW poster – very clever!. So for some its let’s just cleanse the entire recorded history of anything we are just a bit uncomfortable about or disagree with from a populist outrage POV, including entertainment, and then what happened in the past will become an unknown, and we’re going to be in the sphere of, “those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it” (George Santayana).

        1. To watch something, like on iView, we’re eventually going to have to allow an extra 5 minutes viewing time to get through ratings, disclaimers, warnings and trailers! Probably just a matter of time before everything that’s “offensive” is either not allowed or has to be edited.
