Big Brother 2020: meet the housemates

The first 12 housemates enter the House on Night 1 on Seven.

Twelve housemates will enter the Big Brother house on Seven next Monday night.

Another 4 will enter on Tuesday with the final 4 on Wednesday.

The 20 Housemates, range in age from 19-62 and will live together for six weeks, cut off from the outside world and filmed 24 hours a day. In addition to ages, their diversity also ticks various boxes in heritage, sexuality and regional representation.

This season, there are also Nomination Challenges. The winner has the power to nominate three of their fellow Housemates for eviction. For the first time in Australian Big Brother history, Housemates will then cast individual votes to evict one of the three nominees from the house. There will also be tasks with rewards including shopping money, dinner parties, and messages from their loved ones.

A Live finale will see Australia choose which of the final three Housemates wins a $250,000 prize. Filming was completed on the preceding episodes.

Sonia Kruger is host and the series is produced by Endemol Shine Australia.

Allan
31, Sydney
Allan is a high-achieving corporate salesman from Sydney who will do whatever it takes to win Big Brother. Being mediocre just doesn’t cut it for this self-described master manipulator. He will use strategy, stir the pot, poke the bear and give it his all to be there at the end. Allan is a proud A.B.C. (Australian-born Chinese) and is excited to be part of a diverse group of Housemates. Allan is deadset keen on being a trailblazer and becoming the first Asian Housemate to win Big Brother Australia. He’s not too fussed about the prize money and is just happy to showcase his culture, values and beliefs and most importantly, play the game.

Angela
38, Perth
Born to stand out, not to blend in, Angela was raised in the “Beverly Hills of Kenya” before moving to Australia without her parents when she was just 17. Unapologetic and with strong opinions, Angela isn’t afraid to express herself. She had to fight to get where she is today and while her confidence may come across as arrogance, Angela would rather get it all out than regret things not said. Angela may be loud and tough, but she’s also fun, kind and devoted to her family. In coming on Big Brother, the married mum-of-two wants to show Australia and her kids you can do anything you put your mind to.

Casey
25, Perth
Self-described bogan Casey likes pushing herself and she’s ready to give Big Brother a red-hot crack. This creative, clumsy, self-deprecating free spirit says that growing up in Kalgoorlie gave her a country mindset and shaped her into the respectful, open-minded person she is today. Casey works as an accounts administrator but also holds a diploma in youth work and hopes to work with kids in need someday. Her parents are still madly in love with one another and have instilled strong family values in her, while her two older sisters are her best friends and number one supporters. Casey says her family and friends would describe her as annoying and hyperactive and she admits her chaotic energy might get on the nerves of her fellow Housemates. She tends to be restless and will struggle to hide her disinterest in things.

Chad
27, Sydney
There’s more to male model Chad than meets the eye. This kid from Campbelltown spent 10 years in construction until a model scout walked past his job site and signed him up, straight off the scaffold. He’s since travelled the world and modelled for the likes of Vogue, GQ, Country Road, Superdry and David Jones. Still a westie at heart, Chad wants his time on Big Brother to bring recognition to his roots in Sydney’s west. Loving and loyal, his passions 05 are music, the outdoors, staying active and animals and he’ll especially miss his toy poodle Buddy while in the house.

Daniel
28, Melbourne
Former AFL player Daniel is a loveable larrikin set to make his mark on Big Brother. Daniel started playing footy when he was 13 years old, ending up as a ruckman for the Gold Coast Suns and then Carlton. Ever the joker, Daniel says he feels bad for the clubs that picked him up because you’ve gotta be able to get the ball – and he couldn’t get the ball! This big, tall, class clown who was terrible at footy turned to a career in real estate, but a desire to push himself again, along with a little nudge from girlfriend Ana, saw him apply for Big Brother. Daniel’s strategy coming into the house is to be his “unique, funny, weirdo” self and play to his strengths – making people laugh and being an honest, genuine guy. He expects to be the life of the party, entertaining the Housemates with his humour and antics.

Danni
34, Townsville
Married mother-of-two Danni feels she’s going to bring the “real” to this reality competition. The former hairdresser turned call centre service officer describes herself as a typical Aussie into music, movies and new experiences. Having her first child when she was just 18, Danni is proud of the lifestyle she’s achieved and now is the perfect time to live out her Big Brother dream. With a keen interest in psychology, Danni says one of her strengths is her ability to read people and situations. In the house she plans on watching the Housemates’ behaviours and mannerisms, trying to figure out the right moves to make. Her brain will constantly be ticking.

Garth
50, Sydney
Fab, fun and a little naughty, Garth is setting out on his Big Brother adventure to prove to himself and Australia that you can still play hard at 50. A director of a recruitment agency, Garth will draw on his experience with reading people to get to know the Housemates. He likes to think he’ll stick to a competitive strategy but is more likely to get socially excited and forget about the game altogether! Garth is a born showman. He loves attention and he loves to gossip but acknowledges this could be his downfall, so he’ll have to gossip with the right people so nobody thinks he’s a bitch. He is expecting to standout with his loud personality and even louder dress sense and isn’t afraid to share his opinion.

Hannah
26, Perth
Confident, cutthroat and super competitive, Hannah is going to tackle the game of Big Brother with a vengeance. The fit, bright communications specialist grew up in a footy family with two brothers. The three of them play at the same AFL club and her dad is a coach. Hannah won’t let boys try and beat her at anything. Boys don’t scare her; in fact, she’s not afraid of anyone. She’s even earned
the nickname ‘Bulldozer’ because she’ll let nothing stand in the way of getting what she wants. Hannah does have a soft side though, especially when it comes to her 85-year-old Nonna whom she visits every couple of days. Hannah’s strong passion for aged care is reflected in her current dream job with a national health and aged care company.

Ian
25, Perth
Inquisitive by nature, there’s a science to Ian’s motivations for applying to Big Brother. Growing up in the bush as an only child, Ian developed a fascination with ecology and biology, which his geologist parents encouraged. To this day, they still take an annual family holiday together to sightsee, hike and do a little fossil hunting. Ian loves his job as a waiter and it’s helped him develop his people skills. He’s keen to see how he fares being out of his comfort zone on Big Brother and how far he can go in the game without compromising his true self. Ian feels his determination and adaptability will be an asset in the house and hopefully the Housemates find him as interesting and fun as his girlfriend, friends and family do.

Kieran
21, Adelaide
Kieran may appear shy and unassuming but don’t let his looks fool you. This outgoing kid from Adelaide is ready to play a bold, strategic game and will do anything to win Big Brother. Kieran has already made a name for himself as “Adelaide’s worst driver”, racking up millions of views on social for his terrible but comedic attempts at learning to drive with his parents. A Big Brother superfan and self-confessed old soul, Kieran says he’ll be the type of Housemate who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, make bold moves, and lie and cheat to get to the end of the game. He will do anything and everything Big Brother asks and has no issue undermining his competition to go all the way.

Laura
25, Melbourne
Fierce, fabulous and unique, Laura is pumped to bring her “good vibez” to Big Brother. Born and raised in Melbourne with a Fijian and Australian background, Laura dropped out of school at 17 to pursue dancing and has never looked back. After training in NYC and LA, this #bossbitch is now living her dream as a professional dance teacher, choreographer and performer; as well as running her own youth outreach programs. Living communally with a large family means Laura is well equipped for the Big Brother house. Observant and intuitive, she’ll quickly sort the good homies from the bad.

Marissa
62, Sydney
Sydney makeup artist Marissa is ready to show Australia that age is just a number! The competition’s dark horse is no stranger to the spotlight. Marissa and her twin sisters brought aerobics to Australia in the eighties, becoming household names as The Rancan Sisters, with daily morning TV appearances, celebrity clients and a cult following. Still a fitness fanatic, Marissa is living proof that life doesn’t stop at 60. Energetic, self-motivated, kind and generous, Marissa believes the only weakness she has in life is not being able to do everything in one day. She wants to be an inspiration to everyone and show that with a little determination, you can achieve anything and have fun doing it.

Mat
30, Broken Hill
Country bloke Mat was born and raised in Broken Hill, or as he calls it, “God’s Garden.” By coming on Big Brother, this down-to-earth sparky is not only hoping to challenge himself but give the people of his town and surrounds something to smile at and with any luck, make them proud to call him one of their own. A self-confessed sports nut, Mat is “batting above average” with fiancé Jessica and is super close with his mum, dad, younger brother and extended family. Mat says he’ll bring humour, wit, smarts, ADHD energy and a “beautiful big head” into the Big Brother house and reckons his easy-going nature and ability to have a yarn with anyone should take him far. However, sometimes he can be a little naïve and is worried people might try and pull the wool over his eyes and stitch him up in the game.

Sarah
19, Melbourne
Sarah is a 4’11” pocket rocket and Regimental Sergeant Major with the Australian Army Cadets. What she lacks in height, Sarah makes up for with personality, passion and positivity. She loves beating people’s perceptions about her based on her stature. Sarah is a true Aussie battler, growing up on the poverty line in a family of seven; stressing about money from a young age and working
multiple jobs as a teenager to help support 10 her family. Despite the hardships they endured, Sarah’s parents encouraged education and she is now the first person in her family to reach university where she is currently studying Criminal Justice and Psychological Science (to add to her Law and Business studies).

Shane
39, Tweed Heads
Shane is an effervescent husband and father-of-three with a wicked sense of humour. In coming on
Big Brother, Shane wants to prove to himself and his kids that anything is possible. He’s hoping that the life experience which comes with being a bit older will help him go far in the game. With DJ, MC and airline cabin crew under his belt (among other things), Shane now works as a marriage celebrant. He absolutely loves his job and is immensely proud to have presided over one of Australia’s first legal gay marriages. A born entertainer, funny and full of energy, Shane is aiming to use humour to get through any down times in the house. He is extremely optimistic, easy to get along with and is confident the other Housemates will like him as a person and a player.

SooBong
48, Adelaide
Adelaide delivery driver SooBong has been a singer, ski instructor, casino dealer, personal trainer,
golf coach, sound engineer and vocal coach, and now has his sights set on becoming the winner of Big Brother. Born and raised in Korea, the divorced father-of- three is one of the happiest human beings you’ll ever meet. He has a converted campervan, a travelling house, which provides him with the ultimate freedom. SooBong openly admits he’s crazy… but not in an actual crazy way, just 11 for fun. His friends call him Bart (as in Simpson) because he’s cheeky, naughty and doesn’t age. SooBong is looking forward to walking into the Big Brother house, or as he calls it, playground. He expects the Housemates will find him funny, wise and probably a bit weird, but hopefully cool. He is happy to do whatever ridiculous things Big Brother asks of him.

Sophie
25, Darwin
Former elite gymnast Sophie is landing a lifelong dream when she enters the Big Brother house and may surprise her fellow Housemates at Challenges with her athletic edge. Born in Germany and raised in Darwin, Sophie started to train as a gymnast from a young age, moving to Canberra as a teenager and then onto Brisbane to pursue her passion. When she was 18, she made the team for the 2012 London Olympics but just two months out from the Games, her dreams were shattered when a career-ending back injury forced her to retire from elite sport.

Talia
22, Adelaide
Talia isn’t your average 22-year-old woman. In fact, people are usually shocked to discover this blonde beauty works in construction and was a homeowner at just 19. Smart, strong and confident, Talia is looking forward to smashing through more gender stereotypes in the Big Brother house. She may be young and look like a “girly girl,” but after growing up with two older brothers and managing a job site of 50 men, she can hold her own with the boys. Talia’s career progression is a result of strong leadership and communication skills, which she believes will be some of her strengths in the house. She can’t handle people who are fake, who lie or create unnecessary drama, preferring to surround herself with positive energy.

Xavier
23, Sydney
Surfer boy Xavier is likely to be the cheekiest and most chilled out person in the Big Brother house. But look past his boyish charm and laidback persona and you’ll find a deep-thinking paramedic with a kind heart. Xavier reckons he’ll be a cracker of a Housemate – friendly, funny, polite (thanks for the lessons in manners mum!) and someone who can handle conflict and big personalities. In fact, he sees his strength as his ability to get along with people and get them to like him. He admits he can be a bit of a troublemaker and while he doesn’t like fake people, he does like messing with them. He especially gets fired up by people who take themselves too seriously or try and push their opinions on him. He won’t stand for bullies.

Zoe
39, Melbourne
Melbourne fun mum Zoe is a secondary school woodwork teacher who moonlights as a lifestyle blogger with her popular blog, ‘The Subtle Mummy.’ Subtle as a brick to the face, Zoe loves talking about all the taboo subjects that come with being a wife and mother of two kids under six. Zoe doesn’t take life too seriously and wants Australia to see that a regular mum can be fun too. She’s also adamant that mums shouldn’t sacrifice their dreams and things they want to do in life because of their kids, encouraging others to get out, do it and get over the mum guilt.

Begins 7:30pm Monday June 8 on Seven.

  1. I’ll definitely check it out. The diverse casting is a good thing. Pleasantly surprised at that. The only negatives for me is Sonia hosting and it not being live but i won’t judge it until i’ve seen it.
Any word if they will be having a late night version of the show or uncut like back in the days of 10 or will it just be daily episodes?

  2. Not being live turns it into a different show. I’ve been banging on for years wanting this to come back. Now it is I’ll watch and withhold my judgement till I see it.

  3. Gotta admit to being pleasantly surprised at the diversity of this cast compared to previous incarnations. I’ll still be hard passing on it though.

  4. Certainly looks a better line up than 9 served up…..I will give it a go…and I like Sonia…not sure what issue folk have with her?

  5. I’m sorry, nothing in this re-boot interests me at all.

Put it in the same trash can as MKR and House Rules.

I believe the second half of 2020 is going to be even bleaker for Seven.

  6. Is the Marissa pic your choosing David or what Seven have supplied. Bugging me way more than it should that it’s different to the rest.

  7. I wish so much that 7 had picked a different / fresh host… I really think with a show like this, the host could be anyone.

There must be some fresh talent in Australia who could host it… it’s not even Live!

      1. Pretty sure Perth Contestants will be highly promoted in WA.
Its generally the way things at 7 work.
nothing live, as with MKR & HR this will be over the top garbage.
I see it achieving similar ratings.

        1. I’m in Perth and the first I heard that any of them were from WA was in this article. The TV ad for Angela doesn’t mention Perth either. Hadn’t heard of the other 3 from WA until this article. I think you’ll find that enough of Perth watch 7 as is that they probably don’t really need the extra promoting of Perth contestants. Same as past contestants of MKR, House Rules. I can’t think of any of them really highlighted/pushed as being “from Perth so you better tune in!”. Because people already are tuned in. Just my 2c.

  8. Serious question, all the housemates in the ads 7 has run have had some sort of profile (e.g. Kieran having a popular YouTube channel, Mat being on Think Tank). Is this the case with the rest of the housemates revealed?
