That hit rival shows MasterChef Australia at 854,000 and The Voice at 849,000. Numbers were so close there was barely anything in it….

Seven network won Monday with 28.6% then Nine 26.7%, 10 21.1%, ABC 16.0% and SBS 7.6%.

Seven News topped the night at 1.2m / 1.1m. The Chase was high at 714,000 / 465,000 then Home and Away (669,000).

  1. I did enjoy Big Brother last night, however, I feel that Sonia is a little bit wasted as a Host? I mean, she only appeared for the eviction and for welcoming each houseguest. I think she should of also

Also, it felt like I was watching Survivor, especially towards the end of the show?

  2. I think the new BB is designed for a completely new audience to the old BB. BB purists are lamenting the fast format, tight editing, lack of liveness and audience involvement. There won’t be time for the housemates to build the sort of relationships we will be talking about for years to come.

But young audiences these days have very short attention spans (tiktok videos are what, 10 seconds long?), Want instant entertainment not slow burn character building, something they can interact with online with their phones the whole time and something that doesn’t involve much investment or time commitment. The new BB seems to deliver that in spades.

  3. I was pleasantly surprised with BB I thought I would hate it like a lot of others had said, seeing the US series previously which I didn’t like I thought this might be the same, will watch again.

  4. I didn’t hate the new BB – it’s rough around the edges (and I would have preferred to have a live produced series with this set of rules) but I think this is a new way forward for BB and I’d be curious to see how they fix it in future seasons.

  5. I was pleasantly surprised with Big Brother last night. If anything it could rise tonight with Nine putting on repeats that should be kept to streaming services. Don’t get me wrong i love Kath and Kim but come on. You have no new content at all Nine? To BB, I didn’t hate it like i thought i would. I just hope they keep it up going forward. Have a few housemates i don’t like but we will see how we go.

    1. To be fair to Nine, all networks are adjusting schedules as they respond to production shutdowns. They’ve chosen to go retro against 2 reality shows which is a bit surprising at 7:30, but it is what it is.

      1. “They’ve chosen to go retro…” If commercial networks wish to go retro I’d give “Return to Eden” a spit and polish and show this in prime. I’m talking about the mini series of course. I’m sure audiences would like to see some classic mini series which were all the rage back in the 80’s. To name a few I’d like to see would be Against the Wind, All the Rivers Run. Why are commercial networks so reluctant to screen these classics especially with their additional channels?

    2. Seems like 9 have given up and crazy to let BigBrother have an easy win on night 2, what are they thinking throwing up repeats, lazy programming, surely they must in their vaults with all the tv that is made around the world have something/anything that hasn’t screened before that they could show rather than giving in for the night. So many series etc that they own rights too that they don’t screen or dump online now that they could use.

    3. Nine are obviously putting Kath & Kim and The Dish because that’s the best option they have. Foreign TV shows don’t rate on commerical FTA, and movies aren’t doing much better. Operation Buffalo will rate 500k!

  6. Echoing the general sentiment, I was super keen for the BB reboot. But it was really bland.
BB commentary on Twitter were more entertaining than the show.
Switched off during the swing challenge

  7. Good to see Big Brother back – I would have watched it had I known it was on. The problem was the lack of publicity outside the network. I do not watch terrestrial television much so saw no promotions for the show. If they want a big audience they need to advertise outside the narrow confines of their networks – including old fashioned billboards, Facebook and Google advertising, newspaper advertising (website or even print), anywhere but their own network. Promote and the viewers will come but realise promoting on your own network is self-fulfilling failure.

    1. I very much doubt you didn’t know it was on, especially as a visitor at TV tonight. It’s certainly been advertised elsewhere. I think you’ve been self-isolating way too much LOL.

    2. I saw Sonia’s face on the back of a bus going over the Westgate bridge the other day. Been all over commercial radio for weeks now too.

  8. I’m going to predict BB will increase ratings from here, a lot of the target audience do not watch 7 and didn’t see the promos. Seemed to be a lot of comments online from people that didn’t know it started last night. There is less competition tonight. and the rating increased throughout the episode, if people liked it enough to stay to the end, they are probably the type to come back for ep2.

  9. So when does Seven’s lauded ‘fewer commercials, shorter breaks’ commence? Switched to 7 after HYBPA for part of 9-1-1 (which started at 9:20 according to the EPG, not “9.00” as per the promos. 9:55 17 commercials, first break of The Latest 16 commercials.

    1. There was no ads from the start until the last member to arrive which I thought was good, but towards the end there were quite a few ads

  10. I think the numbers will hold tonight, especially without the Voice as competition. Does anyone else find Nine’s programming of Kath & Kim in prime time followed by an old movie, a bit strange? Or maybe it’s just a big gamble as they have nothing else on the shelf.

  11. Loved It!! BB needed to revoluntionise, and 7 have achieved that. With The Voice Blinds wrapping up soon i can imagine a few more people will be moving from 9 to give it a go

  12. I did really enjoy it however I think that’s cos it was more survivor like then big brother.
I liked the hms but no one was really wow.
    I miss the old days.
    I’ll still continue watching it.

  13. Now they gotta pray their favorite doesn’t get kicked out. That’s why I’m not a fan of the new series. It takes control out of our hands, which is the part we all enjoy of BB.

  14. Gee you would feel a bit robbed being evicted on the first night. Would have barely got a chance to see everything.

Enjoyed the masterchef challenged last night. Obviously they have to come up with different ideas for team challenges now. I don’t even notice they are affected by covid.

I know I’m 4 seasons to late but 9-1-1 is a really good show and I’m glad I gave it a go.

  15. Surely those BB numbers will drop significantly. I was really looking forward to watching, and found it one of the most bland and boring programs of the year. No relationship development, no memorable moments, no sparks of excitement. Housemates look great on paper but are beige on screen. So it’s just a show about people living in a house waiting to compete in challenges now?

      1. Lol I thought the same thing. They’ve just met eachother! Let’s see how people like and dislike eachother after a week at least.

      2. Watch an episode of Survivor or an old ep of BB and the beginnings of relationships are front and centre in the storytelling. There was none of this last night.

  16. Interesting that Masterchef maintains second in its slot, with The Voice most impacted by Big Brother. Of course the big question is who sticks around tonight? Reaction was mixed

    1. Yep looking at Twitter last night BB and Masterchef were talked about a lot but The Voice seemed to have disappeared- perhaps some viewers are switching over to 7 and giving BB a go?
There’s no voice tonight because they’ve scaled it back to 2 nights a week – this may be good for BB if they get some Voice viewers tonight and it’s entertaining enough for them to switch permanently to BB

  17. I dont think 7 will hold onto those numbers. Curiosity factor will wain tonight and l expect u will see it around 700k mark. Mind you been wrong many times before

  18. Great news for Big Brother! Can say I did watch and despite being sceptical at first I did really enjoy it, hopefully they can sustain it. Hoping Ian goes far, he’s my fave so far.
