Former Daryl Somers manager fires warning shot

Updated: Daryl Somers denies allegations levelled by ex-manager in employee dispute.

A former chief executive and group legal counsel for Somers Group Australia (formerly Somers Carroll) has issued a lengthy press release warning of legal action unless a dispute is resolved.

Alex Mathey is threatening legal action against Somers, wife Julie and Somers Group Australia, the production company behind Hey Hey it’s Saturday.

He is complaining of an employee dispute and a frustration in resolving the matters. Mathers states he will issue a final letter of demand and if unresolved he intends to commence legal proceedings.

Meanwhile a “blackface” video of Somers singing What A Wonderful World alongside the late Ricky May has resurfaced. While the performance took place in 1988, it was added to the Hey Hey YouTube page in 2015, well after a notorious Red Faces sketch in 2009.

Updated: In a statement to the Herald Sun Daryl & Julie Somers said: “We are aware of allegations recently reported online and in the media regarding Somers Group Australia. The allegations that have been reported are utterly false and without foundation.  We are obtaining legal advice and will not be commenting further.
