Larry, Kylie deny report axe is imminent.

“We’ve won every national ratings block since we started 13 years ago - are they going to axe that?”

The Morning Show hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies have laughed off a magazine report which suggests their show is ripe for the axe.

“We’ve won every national ratings block since we started 13 years ago – are they going to axe that?” Emdur asked.

“How about a quote like it’s 100% not true,” Gillies offered.

Emdur added, “How about this for a quote: Wish they’d used a better photo!”

“I think I might have been on the way to the supermarket,” said Gillies.

Woman’s Day suggested the show may be replaced by an extended Sunrise. It noted the show had been hit hard by an advertising drop, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

TV Tonight understands advertorial-based shows did indeed take a hit in recent weeks but have since seen advertisers returning.

Update: Seven’s Director of News and Public Affairs, Craig McPherson, told Daily Mail Australia the claims were ‘complete rubbish’.

The Morning Show has been a dominant market leader for well over a decade. Advertisers are justifiably queuing up to get on the program,” he said.

  1. I wonder if networks have looked at the Masterchef judges situation and thought – Hmm
We have these stars who are pulling in around $1m a year each but there are 100 people willing to do it for a quarter of that or less

    1. Agree, especially with all the current financial struggles of the networks if you could replace two on those contracts with two on $250k a year straight up save $1.5 million, but would it damage the show and see a drop in advertorial dollars, will see who takes the chance on that first…..

    2. Chemistry is key and Larry & Kylie have it in spades. With TMS there isn’t really many other people to bounce energy off whereas Masterchef has contestants and guest judges/mentors too.

Also sacking hosts can leave a sour taste in peoples mouthes see Ready Steady Cook and Better Homes & Gardens.

      1. Agree with you their about sacking hosts, one example comes to mind that Seven did back in the early 90s, Seven sacking Burgo as Host of Wheel, that caused a big up roar at the time. And look at they did to this years House Rules having Jamie Durie as host.

  2. The only way i couls see this happening is a cost cutting measure as Larry & Kylie must be on pretty decent salaries. Personally I wish they could remove the advertorials altogether from all 3 shows. I know they make the networks but they cause me to the channel as soon as the first one ciimes on.

  3. This show will never get axed not unless Studio 10 and Today Extra are gone first anyway. Woman’s Day isn’t exactly the most credible source.

  4. Good old Woman’s Day at it again, absolutely pathetic rag. I’ve been watching Larry and Kylie on weekends, the best bits package is far more palatable.
