MasterChef is now the show to beat

Ratings: 10 reality show leads in entertainment. Nine and Seven in close network battle.

MasterChef Australia looks to be the show to beat now that The Voice has concluded its Blind Auditions.

Last night it was the top entertainment drawcard at 988,000 and topped the demos, as Brendan Pang was tearfully sent home. That was up slightly on last Sunday’s 945,000.

The Voice was 872,000 then Big Brother on 751,000 / 721,000 -the latter was up on last Sunday.

Grand Designs was some distance behind at 451,000.

Later 60 Minutes was 561,000 then Operation Buffalo (450,000), FBI: Most Wanted (383,000) and movie: Captain America: The First Avenger (322,000).

Nine network won Sunday -just- with 28.5% then Seven 28.3%, 10 21.7%, ABC 15.2% and SBS 6.3%.

Nine News was best for Nine at 1.02m with a late edition at 339,000.

Seven News was #1 with 1.19m for Seven.

The Sunday Project drew 501,000 / 355,000 for 10. 10 News First was 280,000.

ABC News pulled 708,000. Movie: Mao’s Last Dancer drew 218,000 and Compass was 180,000.

On SBS it was SBS World News (185,000), Petra: Secrets Of The Ancient Builders (169,000) and Hurricane was 93,000.

Bluey led multichannels at 224,000.

  2. What a stupid show to put after Masterchef, You go from 980k family viewers only to put on a boring FBI Non family show on after, I would think even a movie would be better or bring back Revamped Rove Live or similar show

  5. The only worry with big brother is will it grow next year or is this the best it can get? It’s never going to suddenly start cracking 800 on the reg? It can barely register a 7 with the nights biggest lead in. This year was its chance, with renewed interest, many people still locked down… New formats can grow in year 2, but the audience has made up their minds on something that has been cancelled twice.
    And yes I know 7 is all about the demos and adding in bvod all of a sudden, for one 8 week show a year.
    Back to regular 7 shortly with farmer and full monty.

    1. I definitely think it’s coming back as 7 would have paid big money for the rights and its performing pretty well compared to MKR and House Rules but as you say the ratings probably won’t be as big.

  6. Seven’s Big Brother 2020 continues to rate well, even though I see the show as a pitiful and sad example of the original concept which is supposed to lay bare humans and the way they interact. But I see more and it’s sad.

    The Big Brother character and symbolic concept originated from George Orwell’s 1949 novel entitled, “1984” where the word dystopian is often used to sum it up – where a world of great suffering and injustice is foreseen. The Big Brother television show should shine a light on us all and maybe it is still shining a light but is anyone else looking carefully at what is being highlighted?

    2020 sees a social experiment of a different kind and in the light, there is something worrying for all of us. Instead of reflecting what is actually happening to us all as we are isolated in our own homes, we’re seeing something totally different. What I saw from the start…

  7. BB was a good watch last night. Angela’s laughter was so infectious. I wish she had wreacked even more havoc. Fascinating conclusion to a compelling ep.
