Seven extends AFL deal to 2024

Seven has announced a revised contract with the AFL for season 2020 as well as 2021 and extended its deal by 2 years to 2024.

Seven West Media expects to save $87m in net benefits over the existing contract period (2020-2022) in media rights reduction, production savings and other benefits.

From tonight there are 16 home and away matches with a 4 week of Finals culminating with a Grand Final on Saturday, October 24.

Managing Director and CEO, James Warburton said: “We can’t wait to bring the Footy back to the fans tonight. The AFL and Seven are a core part of each other’s DNA, and we are delighted to have not only reached a revised agreement for the current contract term, but to have extended our relationship for a further two seasons taking the agreement through until the end of 2024.

“I’d like to thank AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan and the AFL Commission for their commitment which gives certainty to both parties over the next five years.”

  1. $87mil less for AFL $104 mil less for NRL . Both codes better get use to less revenue at the next rights as well. With ViacomCBS literally pulling out of FTA sports rights. One must assume 7and 9 will name there price at the next renewal period.

    • Yep and given the AFL one provides more than 60 per cent of the game’s revenue in normal circumstances, it will interesting for player payments down the line and what the Players Association will do about it.
