What I’ve Been Watching: Heather Ewart

Heather Ewart is a fan of Gogglebox, Mystery Road and even Tiger King.

BackRoads returns to ABC on Monday with host Heather Ewart, who is a fan of Gogglebox, Mystery Road and even Tiger King.

Here’s what else she watches…

What shows are on your must-see TV list lately?
HE: Monday night on the ABC as always been compulsory viewing in our household – because we reckon it’s such an informative and entertaining line up of news and current affairs shows, right through to Q & A.

How has lockdown affected your viewing?
HE:: I’m an old newshound, but even by those standards, we watched a lot more of the ABC News channel, especially in the early stages, trying to stay across everything and figure out what was going on. We also turned to Netflix and ABC iview to catch up on movies, series and dramas we’d missed, like Mystery Road. Couldn’t resist the weird Tiger King series on Netflix, after so much social media chatter about it and finally got to see the movies Little Women [ the 2019 version] and Jojo Rabbit.

Which guilty pleasure show are you reluctant to admit watching?
HE: I’ve always had a soft spot for Midsomer Murders. My family tease me about this. I’ve watched so many re-runs, I always know who the murderer is. And I also love Gogglebox on 10.

When you settle down for a night on the couch, what are your must haves
HE: A glass of white wine, some decent chocolates and access to the remote – which can be quite a battle.

What show would you secretly love to appear on?
HE: Gogglebox

What’s coming up on BackRoads and what was your personal highlight?
HE: We begin with a journey right across the Nullarbor – taking in all the amazing sights, sounds and people you’ll find when you actually give yourself time to stop and turn off the main road. The highlight would have to be whale watching at daybreak on the cliffs of the Great Australian Bight. We also go to the seaside town of Penguin in Tas, Omeo in the Victorian high country, and so many more. Now there’s no international travel for Australians for the foreseeable future, I hope the shows will make viewers realise there’s so much to explore and enjoy right here at home.

BackRoads returns 8pm Monday on ABC.
