Airdate: Cursed

High-end Arthurian fantasy stars Aussie Katherine Langford.

High-end young adult fantasy Cursed begins on Netflix later this month.

A reimagining of the Arthur tale, it stars Aussies Katherine Langford and Shalom Brune-Franklin plus Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgård and Peter Mullan.

Based on the upcoming book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.

Friday July 17 on Netflix.

  1. Cursed is based on an illustrated novel/comic book not a video game.
I don’t think it will cause too much of an issue if its popular.
Most of these big budget Netflix show have a turnaround of 18-24 moths (if they are not set up for yearly turn around).
With Covid-19 they can still do a lot of the pre-production i.e. writer room, develop and write scripts, story boarding, table reads etc for the next season or two.
So when they can start filming it could move quickly, the biggest hold up would be navaging new covid-19 filming restrictions.
Cursed is filmed in England but could move to another European country if they can start filming in England when they need to even if its just the studio portision.

  2. The shows title and the swords and sorcery theme of the trailer makes Cursed look like a future computer game release.
Kudos to Netflix though for continuing to produce high end shows even though their script writers are not always up to the task. I wonder though with the long lead time needed for expensive shows like Cursed, how Netflix, Disney+ and others will keep up with any demand for renewals during COVID-19.
