Airdate: One Night Only: The Beatles In Oz

Nine to screen a remastered 1964 concert of The Beatles at Festival Hall, Melbourne.

Well this is a great idea…

In 1964, the Beatles played Melbourne’s Festival Hall and Channel Nine was there to capture it.

Now the historic concert will be seen again.

One Night Only: The Beatles In Oz is completely remastered, with never-before-seen footage of The Beatles’ tumultuous and only visit to Australia.

When they touched down here in 1964 on their first world tour Australia went into hysterical Beatlemania. They captivated the nation for 13 amazing and unforgettable days. Wherever they went, tens of thousands of screaming fans lined the streets hoping to catch a glimpse of John, Paul and George, as well as Jimmie Nicol, the drummer filling in for Ringo, who missed the tour due to illness.

Channel Nine was given access to film their final sold-out Melbourne concert, where the crowd went wild for hits like She Loves You, I Saw Her Standing There, Twist and Shout, Can’t Buy Me Love and Long Tall Sally.

Now, 56 years later, the remastering of this incredible show will take rusted-on Beatle fans down memory lane and give the younger generation a rare glimpse at the phenomenon of Beatlemania in action.

Apart from their incomparable music, the Beatles possessed the magic to put on the sort of live show that has never been seen since their heyday.

See why when Nine puts viewers right in among the sea of excited fans at the height of Beatlemania with One Night Only – The Beatles In Oz.

9.30pm Monday July 13 on Nine

  1. … the media release says “Ringo, who missed the tour due to illness” … except he didn’t … he only missed Adelaide and then joined the rest of the band in Melbourne on 14 June and played the rest of the tour (including the gig being telecast) …
