Big Brother, Micallef doco winners in late ratings data

Ratings: Big Brother won its slot on two nights, Micallef doco helped push ABC ahead of 10.

TV ratings are being released progressively for the missing days of data, after Nielsen was a victim of ransomware.

Here is a summary:

Tuesday July 21

Seven dominated the night with Big Brother‘s penultimate episode, although notably Micallef’s new doco On the Sauce pushed ABC into third place ahead of 10. Bachelor in Paradise slipped to fourth in its slot.

Seven: 30.7
Nine: 25.4
ABC: 18.7
10: 16.9
SBS: 8.2

The Chase: 668,000 / 409,000
Seven News: 1.18m / 1.11m
ABC News: 824,000

Wednesday July 22

Seven won again, but Nine was closer this time. Big Brother finale led in entertainment.

Ratings for July 23  / 24 will be released after midday with July 25 / 26 after 3pm (the latter have all-important Sunday numbers).

Numbers for July 27 & 28 will be released tomorrow.

Nielsen statement:

We can confirm that all TV ratings data has been collected from 21 July up until current. Furthermore, as of 9am today (29 July), we have begun to release historical data. 

This morning we released TV ratings data to our clients for the days of 21 and 22 July. By the end of the day today, all missing days up until 26 July are expected to be released, with subsequent missing days to follow Thursday and Friday. As of Saturday, 1 August, we expect the overnight TV ratings service to return to normal. 

Nielsen’s Head of TAM Australia, Caroline Atford reiterated Nielsen’s gratitude to the entire industry and thanked the Nielsen team. 

“I would like to sincerely thank our clients and the entire Australian media industry for their patience and understanding during this unprecedented situation that disrupted Australia’s TV ratings service,” said Atford. 

“I would also like to thank Doug Peiffer at OzTAM, Dave Walker at Regional TAM and their Boards, who continued to trust Nielsen to manage this situation to the highest standard. Finally, I thank the entire Nielsen response team and Nielsen leadership teams – both locally and globally – for their late nights, early mornings, commitment and incredible teamwork to overcome this significant challenge,” expressed Atford.

  1. less than a million for the BB finale? popular but not a mega hit. I remember the first series on ten got close to or over 3 million viewers making it bigger than the AFL grand final.

  2. Bachie in Paradise is low in total people, but performing much better in the demos and BVOD (as these Bachelor shows usually do). Interesting that Bachelor in Paradise beat the Big Brother finale in the younger demo on Wednesday
