Chris Sebastian wins The Voice 2020

Singer Chris Sebastian, brother of Guy, takes the crown in Nine's singing show.

Singer Chris Sebastian has won The Voice 2020.

He wins $100,000 and a contract with EMI, in what was a second win for coach Kelly Rowland.

Sebastian, brother of coach Guy Sebastian, performed Linkin Park’s Numb in the finale and a duet of The Horses with Daryl Braithwaite.

His new single Bed for 2 is released by EMI.

John O’Donnell, Managing Director of EMI Music Australia said, “A huge congratulations to Chris on his great win in tonight’s Grand Finale of The Voice 2020. What an incredible talent. We are thrilled to welcome Chris to the EMI roster and congratulate him and all the artists who made it through to the Grand Finale.”

Earlier, Siala Robson performed God is a Woman by Ariana Grande and a duet of Untouched with The Veronicas. Stellar Perry performed Anyone by Demi Lovato and a duet of Kate Bush’s Running Up that Hill with Delta Goodrem. Johnny Manuel performed My Heart Will Go On and a duet of Sam Sparro’s Black & Gold with Guy Sebastian.

This year’s Grand Final was pre-recorded with social distancing and a virtual audience due to COVID restrictions. But voting which had been open all week closed during the final, leaving one of 4 multiple endings to be played out.

  1. … no, not rigged … as has been shown in the past, when it comes to a public vote, it just helps to have your fellow churchgoers behind you …

  2. What would’ve been interesting is if Guy was the only judge to turn his chair originally and Chris had no choice but to go with him as his mentor.🤔

      1. It doesn’t sit 100% comfortably with me that everyone else missed out on winning…except the brother of one of the judges. I haven’t seen the show at all so I shouldn’t judge but it’s just an interesting result I guess.

        1. totally agree it seems really sus to me, what happened to family and or friends of cast or crew can not participate in game shows / reality shows? Channel 9 does have a lot of form with family members getting jobs within the network, How many Stefanovic’s have worked on Today?

  3. I don’t believe the best four singers made the final but out of the four, to choose from, the public voted for Chris. His single has gone to number 3 on ITunes so obviously a lot of people preferred his voice.

  4. In my opinion Chris Sebastian had the better voice and definitely deserved to win his voice was more soulful and had more runs etc while Johnny may have had a bigger voice it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s best. Let’s hope his record label stays with him for a while 👍

  5. Not a good look at all. I can’t enter Woolworths competitions because my daughter works part time at a Big W helping people with self serve and packing online orders while studying at university but channel 9 let’s this happen. FTA in this country is a disgrace.

  6. Between this and Masterchef the love of conspiracy theories for each and everyone. Sebastian was an All Star all part of the rules, all the All Stars have an association with the show.

  7. Hi David. The songs God is a woman and Anyone have been attributed to the wrong contestants. Siala did ‘God’ (yikes) and Stellar did Anyone (amazing).

I hope in the interests of transparency that Nine releases the order of the top 4. In ‘normal’ years we get them eliminated live thu the show leaving a top 2 so it shouldnt be a secret.

Guy has a very ardent fanbase who already knew and loved Chris and mustve voted for him rather than Guy’s contestant Jonny. I didnt see that coming.

And for the record, I’m in love with Stellar (Amanda) Perry.

  8. Just shows how much i pay attention, i didn’t even know it was Guy’s brother till this episode, probly missed it when i had to mute all the ads. Tis ridiculous though to have a hosts brother even be in the competition. I also think the comp needs to go back to being amateur, too many singers in it with professional experience means its no longer a hunt for new talent.
One wonders how much of the results were affected by Covid19 restrictions, potential contestants being in lockdown so not being able to appear on the show etc. Out of the final 4 Johnny clearly should have been the winner imho though, he has an absolutely amazing voice.

  9. How is a relative of an employee of the contest allowed to even enter, let alone win? It’s usually in the T&Cs of any contest that a relative of an involved party in the contest is ineligible. It’s a basic conflict of interest.

His win might be 100% legit but it’s a very bad look for Nine.

    1. There is your standard disclaimer in the forms of:

“neither I nor any member of my immediate family or anyone living in my household are or have been within the last two (2) years an employee, officer, director or agent of any of the following:” and goes on to list

Ch. 9, later including “Any person or entity involved in the development, production, distribution or other exploitation of the Program;”
      Producers,
      Universal Music,
Sponsors, including those providing prizes and services.

      Agree, it’s a bad look

      1. The last line of the clause states that if any of the above is true then you must advise the producers immediately. They obviously then have the final say if someone gets in or not. In Chris’s case they said it was ok.

          1. He did some self promoting, such as performing his new song on the show & announcing his 2021 tour on the show. Delta did the same.

  10. I saw this coming from a mile away once I realised that Guy’s brother was a contestant. Absolutely shameless nepotism. The other contestants ought to consider pursuing action due to conflict of interest.

    1. agreed but would bet that Nine made sure the T&C’s of appearance contracts would be airtight in that regard, although even then there is room to appeal. But do you think any of those contestants would have enough $ to get a lawyer to take it that far in a court? doubt it.

      1. That’s precisely what makes this so disgraceful. I had pointed out earlier that Guy already has contacts (and money) to propel his brother to stardom, so Chris already has an enormous advantage over most people (let alone the other contestants), but the fact that he’s scored a record contract plus a substantial cash prize over those who had to work their way up from practically nothing frankly disgusts me.

        1. Never even thought of it in that light. You’re right, surely Guy had the ability to pull industry strings to help his bro out without the need to go on The Voice.

  11. This was a shock. I didn’t vote (as I didn’t have a fave and due to all the outcomes of previous seasons with the winners) but I definitely didn’t think he was in top 2 faves.

I wonder how many people voted for the end considering it was the first and only time they were able to vote this series.

      1. Sorry, I meant to say the final was the first and only time they were able to vote in this series. Like previous weeks only the judges were deciding who made it through with no influence from the public, yet in previous series the public was voting quite often.

    1. There is an article on The Voice website that was posted this morning that said there was only 2% difference in votes between 1st and 2nd place. I would say they did not receive many votes, especially because you had to register for 9Now to be able to vote instead of voting through the app like all other years.
