Kieran leaves Big Brother with $15,000

Underdog walks away with cash, while housemates are gobsmacked by a BB twist.

21 year old Kieran Davidson has walked out of the Big Brother house with a cash prize of $15,344 after being tempted by money in a “white room” challenge.

Kieran was voted out on Monday night by his housemates, but was thrown a lifeline with a secret “white room” in which he stayed for an extended period with no mental stimulation. He was given a red buzzer if he wanted to quit, but he waited it out until a second eliminated housemate, Sophie Budack, joined him.

Eventually both were offered a rising amount of money in 60 seconds. The first to press a buzzer would scoop the loot, while the other would re-enter the game. If neither pressed then a housemate (who had won a challenge) would have the power to choose.

While Sophie, separated from her ally Chad Hurst, vowed to remain, Kieran was tempted by the cash, happily going home $15,000 richer “on my own terms.”

When Sophie re-entered the game, housemates Daniel Gorringe and Mat Garrick, were decidedly unimpressed by the twist, even threatening to quit the show.

Big Brother also confirmed the money won would be deducted from the series $250,000 prize.

“I’m back, channelling every single queen that there is right now, the Ice Queen, Khaleesi, Queen of Sheba. If someone tries to kick me off this throne again they’re going to have to fight hard. I’m not going easily this time,” Sophie declared.

Next week 5 housemates are in the running for the remaining $234,656, with voting set to open after Tuesday’s semi-final.

A live grand final is due to take place on Wednesday night at Eveleigh studios.

  1. Thank goodness Kieran took the money and ran! I couldn’t stand the bloke, one of my least favourite Reality contestants of all time!

  2. Can we also evict Sonia? She has contributed nothing to the show to the point it is cringeworthy when she come on. She left nine for this? Get Mike Goldman back narrating and give host role to someone who actually wants to do it. Sonia just doesn’t seem interested in the show

  3. If all goes to plan neither Dan or Matt will win. Fans of the show are banding together to make sure who ever is in the final with them (if they both make it) wins. So if Sarah is there with Matt and Dan the plan is to vote for Sarah.

Matt and Dan have been bullies and assholes the whole way through and do not deserve to win. I hope Sophie gets rid of them in the next challenges

    1. Yes that’s the vibe going around. Dan and Matt really revealed themselves last night, acting like entitled brats when Sophie came back in. Very satisfying to watch! And even better that Kieran walked away with 15K more than they will be getting. “I’m a thick boy who just stole 15K” was brilliant. Chad, Sophie or Sarah for the win.

  4. I haven’t been a fan of Dan or Mat all season; however, I also don’t trust the editing of this series at all. I don’t believe they didn’t greet Sophie when she re-entered the house last night. All their frowny-faced misery was zoomed in, leading me to think we could’ve been seeing reactions from earlier points in the night. The dummy spits with BB in the diary room were also just flashes of what is obviously a longer interaction. Not saying they’re not babies, I just want to see it all for myself.

I said from the beginning that this format just gives the producers far too much power to chop and screw over a month’s worth of footage to fit a narrative. The housemates’ laughing reactions to Kieran having to wash all the dishes was also painfully patched together. Some people weren’t even wearing the same clothes in consecutive scenes.

I think Dan & Mat have done enough damage to…

    1. I suspected the footage of Kieran and Sophie “going mad” was staged by producers, and as you say, tightly edited to provide a misleading view of what happened and how they really coped.

    2. I agree there’s no way the sitting around sulking for so long and not speaking to her when she came back in wasn’t edited to death. That didn’t change much of my opinion though. They went and had their whinge in the diary room and they were so cocky about ousting Sophie, being top 3, having the power for so long etc.

  5. Dan and Matt are the reason I stopped watching mid way through, they are thoroughly unlike-able.
I watched again last night when the ads showed they were upset and I had hoped they were being taken down but they are still there. It seems the spoilers are on track.

As discussed the new format has ruined the show as you never get to know anything about them and they don’t get to know each other as they spend all their time plotting against each other. It’s just Survivor inside a house.

I never watch Survivor either as who wants to watch people back stabbing each other.

    1. They did get to know each other. Watching the Ben, Rob and Robbo show last night, there are many interactions between the contestants that we are not seeing. They did not spend all their time in there plotting against each other as 7 would have us believe.

    2. I enjoy BBAU in this competitive format (I enjoy Survivor & the BBUS/Canada (similar in format to the current BBAU format) – So I enjoy the strategy, gameplay and backstabbing of these game shows.

But I do agree on you’re point: we’re not getting to know the Housemates enough – slow it down, have more episodes per each eviction and more days between each eviction in the house – so that we get to know the day to day interaction, activities and habits of our Housemates, while they play in a 250k power struggle – that would be the best of both worlds really.

    3. re : Survivor : I do. I want to watch that. That’s why I like this, far more than any previous season. Bit sick of people complaining about the “new format”. It hasn’t been on for years, it’s a different show now.

  6. Ok so I’m, not really a BB watcher but have seen a few bits here and there. I watched it from 7:30 last night because there was nothing else on especially with no masterchef to watch.

I would have done exactly what Kieran did. He knew if he went back in he wouldn’t win. So it was a win win. He walks away with 15k, sends Sophie back in and he annoyed Dan and Matt.

But the way Dan and Matt carried on was like a little child that got there toys taken off them. I’ve only read what Dan and Matt have been up to so if the public has to choose surely Sarah wins. She seems really sweet.

I have been told Kieran made up the nickname, but I still didn’t like Dan sitting there saying can you hear me thick.

    1. I didn’t like them calling Kieran that either, it just came across as really patronising/disrespectful. Especially when they sort of laugh behind his back a lot.

  7. Kieran knew he had little chance of winning so took best option for him. Dan and Mat blew chances of winning with their dummy spits. Public will most likely choose Sarah
Hope they change nomination process next season as current season has been destroyed by one person deciding nominations.
    Would like to see:
Challenge winner nominates 1 person – not revealed to others
All housemates give 2 and 1 point votes – no discussion allowed
Top 2 vote winners and challenge winners choice up for eviction.
All housemates then do a secret vote – no discussion allowed
Stops the alliances and makes evictions far more interesting!

    1. Definitely bring back the no discussion rule. It has to revert back to no discussion of noms.
It also makes Big Brother himself a far more important part of the house as the housemates only have one person to vent to about certain things. I remember many of the most poignant, best moments were revealed when the housemates would talk to BB about their strategies or what they were thinking. I also enjoyed the season BB got super strict on noms and each Housemate had to have a legit reason for their nomination or they would be warned/punished.

      1. Yes I agree with you both on these points. I miss the more prickly and raw side of the game and the potholes that the housemates fell into when they breached house rules or fell foul of BB. Although I like this Big Brother voice, he has tolerated a lot of bad language and dis-respect; including seeing Mat’s tirade (or a hint of it) last night when BB was inexplicably defending the twists to the game. None of that would have been countenanced by earlier incarnations of the role. I recall previous ones even giving housemates a hard time for how they presented in the diary room. The nom ‘chats’ are just so transparent, especially as the walls have ears – literally there – where one room has a massive square hole in the wall; leaving it impossible not to eaves drop.

That said, I like the speed of the show, and the nightly evictions – however truncated that has meant for other…

    2. Being able to be tactical and talk to others about who to vote for, is one of the very big pluses for me with this new version. It used to do my head in that people are playing for such a big prize and yet couldn’t collaborate and work together opennly. You ended up will silly nomination reasons, so we didn’t get to really know what they were thinking about the other contestants.

I’ve said it before, but under the old system I suspect Angela would have gone very early, perhaps Dan too. The new system allows some of the less liked (publicly) to stick around, which keeps the show interesting.

Having one person win the challenge and nominate also exposes who they are aligned with, so makes it tricky as to whether you should try and win the challenge or not. Talia won 2 of the first 4 and was then seen as threat, so she was voted out the first chance the others had. I think…

      1. I highly doubt Angela would have gone early. The majority of the public liked her. If any anything with the old system she would have made it to the finale easily just like Estelle in 2012 and Priya in 2014.

        1. I disagree, Angela was initially on the nose with many viewers due to her perceived high brow attitude, which could have seen her evicted early.

          1. Indeed. She would’ve probably gone early before the public had a chance to warm to her.

    3. I absolutely,whole-heartedly agree all points.
Though, I would prefer it if it also went back to being live and the public got to vote to eliminate from the three nominated. Plus it would bring back the exit interview. (I realise there is Eye-Spy, but I want something immediately after eviction.) Plus, being live means producers can’t edit to one player or another. (Imagine, a reality show being impartial.)
I also feel like Big Brother needs to up his game. I think most, if not all the shopping challenges and tasks had been done previously. Though I do enjoy having the noms challenges, I do hope next year they aren’t all based around physicality.
Oh, and yes, BB needs to be a lot stricter. Almost tyrannical in nature. Call people out, punish them if they do the wrong thing. Heck, even set their bedtime.
Also…I know this is the 2nd time that BB has done the white room twist, but…

  8. The beauty of BB is that housemates forget that producers can choose what they show and especially Dan and Mat have come off looking pretty lacking in integrity with their plotting. The petulant walk offs and dirty looks said more than words could have. Given the public only has to vote on the final few, I hope Sarah or Chad or Sophie win! Sarah is just a delight to watch. The cynicism of Dan with his comments that the public would go for Sarah’s hard luck story, has been on display for most of the series with his early claiming of the house as his domain. Whilst a good villain is always good television, not sure it should be rewarded! (Unless you are Larry Hagman ‘JR’ Ewing) 🙂

  9. $234,656 doesn’t quite have the same ring as $250,000 lol.
I can’t remember ever disliking two people in Aussie reality Tv as much as I do Dan and Matt. So last night was particularly joyous viewing for me. Watching them act like spoilt little brats that didn’t get their own way was pathetic and just further consolidated that they are both very dislikable. However they have played the game beautifully… so go figure…
