News events dominate Tuesday

Ratings: Afternoon news cracked the Top 20 and topped multichannels yesterday.

Breaking news out of Melbourne ensured news bulletins were up on Tuesday.

Seven News (1.19m / 1.12m) was #1, ahead of Nine News (1.1m / 1.01m).  ABC News won its 7pm slot at 846,000.

Seven News at 4:30 cracked the Top 20 at 334,000. Of note, ABC News Afternoons also led multichannels yesterday at 214,000.

Meanwhile MasterChef Australia again led entertainment stakes and topped the demos at 949,000, defeating The Voice (703,000) Big Brother (695,000), 7:30 (623,000), Foreign Correspondent (408,000) and Who Do You Think You Are? (305,000).

Later Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean drew 381,000 then The Montreal Comedy Festival (319,000), American Idol (278,000) and Ramsay’s 24 Hours To Hell And Back (253,000).

Nine network won Tuesday with 28.7% then Seven 26.2%, 10 20.0%, ABC 16.1% and SBS 9.0%.

A Current Affair drew 782,000 for Nine then Hot Seat (577,000 / 378,000).

The Chase was 670,000 / 433,000 for Seven then Home and Away (669,000). Criminal Minds was 119,000.

The Project pulled 538,000 / 323,000 for 10. 10 News First (464,000 / 283,000) and NCIS (174,000).

Louis Theroux’s Altered States managed 226,000 and The Drum was 217,000 for ABC.

On SBS it was SBS World News (193,000), Insight (191,000), Where Are You Really From? (132,000) and Mastermind (93,000).

  1. With that extra night of ‘The Voice’ this week, it’s going to be interesting to see if 9 can snatch back a week from 7. I think it will be quite close.

    Was funny and touching
    Katy Perry gets a lot of hate of late
    But her new song daises is actually a bop
    I will follow it to channel go on Thursday nights

    1. Yep and it’s pulling in the younger Demographics which The Voice isn’t, sure 2nd to Masterchef in the 16-39 demo by 78,000 however with no sign of The Voice in the Top 5 (all 3), it may catch-up to The Voice soon.

    1. Nah it still came in 9th even if third to the other 7:30pm shows, the rest was all News and last week (The Voice wasn’t on) Paramedics only pulled 546,000 so Nine have nothing else that will get to that 703,000 mark anyway.
