Reynold “in talks” on 10 series

Third place-getter is in discussion for a Reynold-hosted dessert show.

MasterChef third-place contestant Reynold Poernomo is in discussions with 10 around his own series.

Last night during an interview on The Project, Steve Price suggested, “We need to see the Reynold dessert show as a stand (alone) show on Channel 10, with you starring in the front. What about that?”

“We’re actually in talks but we’ll see,” Poernomo laughed.

Declining to choose between grand finalists Emelia and Laura he noted, “I definitely won’t have my show if I spoil anything!”

10 is yet to confirm any development on a Reynold-hosted series, but has ViacomCBS Australia & New Zealand chief content officer and EVP, Beverley McGarvey, praised the show’s excellent run.

“The success of MasterChef Australia: Back To Win has been remarkable. There is no doubt Australia’s celebration, obsession and love of food is still strong,” she said.

“We were thrilled to welcome Jock, Melissa and Andy to the MasterChef family, and so too were audiences. Their combined culinary credentials coupled with their passion and sheer joy for food, and their relentless enthusiasm to explore ingredients, preparation and cooking methods really resonated.

“I would like to thank Jock, Melissa and Andy for their commitment, sincerity and passion. They have been a true pleasure and delight to watch. Their kindness and warm rapport with the contestants have just been wonderful.

“This year also proved the perfect opportunity to bring back familiar and much loved MasterChef alumni, our 24 talented and passionate former contestants, who absolutely outdid themselves everyday with exceptional, extraordinary and delicious cooking. I would like to sincerely thank and congratulate each one of them for such a heart-warming and incredible season.

“And of course, a special congratulations to Emelia on being crowned the winner of MasterChef Australia: Back To Win.

“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to Marty Benson and his team, and to all our friends and production partners at Endemol Shine Australia who, through exceptionally trying circumstances due to the COVID-pandemic, were able to rise to the challenge as always and produced a brilliant, quality show in a safe environment.

“Finally, I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Network 10 who has contributed to the success of this season, particularly executive producer Rick Maier.”

She added, “This isn’t the last we’ll see of the MasterChef Australia kitchen this year. We’re looking forward to welcoming back the three judges and a new generation of cooks when Junior MasterChef Australia returns to our screens for a special event season later this year.”

  2. don’t we have enough reality tv shows about cooking reno work house building watching people watch tv singing masked singers and all the other junk , make tv shows drama comedy and others or have tv executives got no idea how to make shows just copy reality tv shows from overseas

    1. We’ve just had Secrets She Keeps, How to Stay Married, Kinne Tonight while Five Bedrooms is in production… so it’s not an either / or. Ultimately this Reynold talking about discussions, so we’ll see how that pans out.

      1. A lot of the comments here are referring to the prediction of a cooking series not a reality show, with a total dessert focus the difference

        Not sure Ten would want to try it as reality format given Zumbo’s mixed results

  3. Channel ten really know how to spend and waste money. Maybe if he did an afternoon show on deserts (with all the other cooking shows) it may be successful.

  6. If he was to host a dessert show, i wonder if it will air weekdays in the afternoon slots (3.30 or 4pm) like other various cookimg shows, some even hosted by other former MasterChef contestants. Like Juatine Schofield’s Everyday Gourmet and Ben Milbourne and Hayden hosted a cooking show too…

      1. I’d love to see a show with Reece and Brendan as well. They were very amusing. On another note, was Brendan present among the eliminated contestants last night? I don’t recall seeing him.

          1. The interstate travel restrctions would have left some out unfortunately, who didn’t want to sit at home for 2 weeks after filming

      2. I’d also love to see Brendan and Reece joining with Khan and Jess in their own show. Those four were a delight to watch individually, and they each developed quite a few fans. Together they’d have TV ratings appeal, if only TEN could find a suitable enduring and endearing format, and a good producer to bring them all together in a crowd-pleaser . I bet TEN’s MasterChef EP Rick Maier is thinking along similar lines, in order to use the emerging talent his show discovered.

  11. I’m sorry, he just doesn’t have the personality to front a show. Does no one remember Zumbo trying to host?

    Bring on the Jess, Brendan and Reece show please

    1. Based on what we saw in Masterchef I don’t disagree…but remember he was there to focus on the cook, not being a personality that is needed to drive his own show so he may have it in him.
      Would love to see a Brendan and Reece show…I think they suggested something like going from Perth to Sydney visiting previous Masterchef contestants which would be interesting…maybe one day when we can travel again freely

      1. Zumbo did Just Desserts, 2 seasons and I e read a possible 3rd, but he lost everything in business, I hope Reynold gets better advice. His moments on Masterchef were strongly about the business and his family and success, don’t wish it too quickly.
