Seamless start for Nine’s new Emergency

Ratings: In TV programming terms, this is almost the holy grail.

In TV programmer terms it’s almost the holy grail: a seamless transition where not one viewer is lost when one show ends and another begins.

Last night 544,000 viewers watched RBT on Nine at 7:30 then another 544,000 watched the debut of Emergency at 8:30pm -the latter winning its slot. That’s a strong start for the new observational by WTFN.

That’s contrasted by new SBS show Who Gets to Stay in Australia? which dropped half its audience in its second outing, following a train doco.

The Chase was actually the top entertainment drawcard yesterday at 675,000 / 422,000, while ABC titles did good business in primetime.

7:30 led its timeslot at 661,000. Following RBT were Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery (504,000), America’s Got Talent (456,000), Bondi Rescue (347,000 / 270,000) and Tony Robinson’s World By Rail (303,000).

Later The Weekly with Charlie Pickering drew 528,000, then Rosehaven (496,000) and The Front Bar (307,000).

Nine network won Wednesday with 28.6% then Seven 27.0%, ABC 18.1%,  10 16.4% and SBS 9.8%.

Nine News (1.07m / 953,000) led for Nine and topped the demos then A Current Affair (706,000) and Hot Seat (569,000 / 345,000). Botched had 198,000 in 4 cities.

Seven News was #1 with 1.17m / 1.11m. Home and Away pulled 642,000. Busted In Bangkok managed 162,000.

The Project was 490,000 / 330,000 for 10. 10 News First (387,000 / 253,000), Tommy (215,000) and Bull (200,000) followed.

ABC News won its slot at 815,000 for ABC. Retrograde (239,000) and The Drum (195,000) followed.

On SBS it was SBS World News (211,000), Inside Aldi (142,000), Who Gets To Stay In Australia? (128,000) and Mastermind (100,000).

NCIS led multichannels at 214,000.

Sunrise: 257,000
News Breakfast: 161,000 / 64,000
Today: 195,000

OzTAM Overnights: Wednesday 8 July 2020

  1. So Seven are only airing three new eps of The Chase a week, presumably using Thurs & Fri to air repeats featuring the Governess and the Beast because they can’t film here. I get it, but it’s pretty pathetic having waited so long for new eps.

  2. Hi David, could you please provide if possible the rating figure for At Home Alone Together: Extra Dose (after Retrograde)? Thank you. And welcome back, Mr Oily…
