Vale: Grant Imahara

Grant Imahara, best known as Mythbusters host, has died.

Grant Imahara, best known as Mythbusters host, has died aged 49.

He died suddenly following a brain aneurysm.

Imahara co-hosted more than 200 episodes of Mythbusters from 2005 to 2014, replacing Scottie Chapman.

He joined the show after an invitation from host Jamie Hyneman and was a part of the Build Team with Kari Byron and Tory Belleci. Imahara was well known for making the robots and other electronics needed for the experiments on the show.

A statement from Discovery said, “We are heartbroken to hear this sad news about Grant. He was an important part of our Discovery family and a really wonderful man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

Fellow Mythbusters host Adam Savage said on Twitter, “I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.”

Imahara also hosted White Rabbit Project with Byron and Belleci, which ran for one season on Netflix in 2016.

He also appeared on Drunk History, Battlebots, Sharknado 3, the web series Star Trek Continues and the Marvel animated series Avengers Assemble.

  1. I have a couple of friends who were personally close to Grant Imahara- one of them publically displaying her grief on social media. My heart goes to them at this sorrowful hour.

  2. So sad and on top of all that work he was also the one who built Craig Ferguson’s Robot Skeleton sidekick Geoff Peterson, but yeah 49 years old so 10 years younger than me … just seems wrong 🙁

  3. So sad. I had the pleasure of working with Grant for two years back in 2006. He was always a consummate professional and one of the most intelligent people I’ve come across. Such a loss.
