ACA staying on Saturdays until end of year

Six nights of current affairs is here to stay for 2020.

It may have been added during the first wave of COVID-19 but Nine is going to keep A Current Affair on Saturdays for the remainder of the year.

A Nine source confirmed to TV Tonight it will reassess things at the end of the year.

Part of Nine’s strategy is that movies are diminishing in audiences and ACA costs can be aggregated with the unit already in place.

For the time being Saturdays presenter will continue to revolve, having recently included Leila McKinnon and Deborah Knight.

  1. It’s a shame they couldn’t find a better spot for Deborah Knight. She’s the best newsreader on 9 and she is stuck on something that has zero credibility.

Give her the Saturday timeslot, raise the quality of content and remove the ACA branding. It could be something as simple as a weekly recap of the pandemic with some interviews of CMOs and Premiers. It doesn’t even have to be live.

  2. I suspect this is why Seven are airing “Border Patrol”, to try and be competitive directly against it for 30min. Of course Seven were doing their own “The Latest” coronavirus news specials earlier during the pandemic too.

While they’ve been somewhat refreshing, I’d imagine they’ll resort back to the 7pm movie eventually.

  3. Sorry please channel nine we don’t need more news and current affairs. You need to see the broader picture people don’t want to always be reminded of COV19 people want escapism and this isn’t it.
