Better Homes & Gardens: August 28

This week it's outdoor extensions, koala trackers, 3D printing and rump steak.

This week on Better Homes & Gardens it’s outdoor extensions, koala trackers, 3D printing and rump steak.

Johanna + Adam + Charlie – Father’s Day
Have you ever dreamt about adding an extension to your home but immediately put the idea in the ‘too hard basket’ because of the huge expense, confusing council regulations and a lack of time? This week, Johanna, Adam and Charlie are teaming up for an extension with a difference. They’re turning an unused courtyard into a unique outdoor room which has all the benefits of a regular extension, without the costs or many of the hassles. We’re calling it the cheat’s extension, and it’s the perfect Father’s Day gift for a very deserving dad of two.

Fast Ed – Beef Rump Roast with Creamy Greens
Fast Ed’s making a classic roast dinner with a difference. Sumac-rubbed rump steak plus a creamy take on your standard leafy greens, this family favourite is packed with flavour and nutrition.

Fast Ed – Peach Tarte Tatin
If you love peach pie, this dish will knock your socks off! With homemade caramel sauce and a crispy pastry base, the best thing about this dish is that it’s made with ingredients you probably already have on hand, like tinned fruit and puff pastry. Plus, Fast Ed’s making a butterscotch sauce using the leftover juice from the peaches, so there’s no waste either!

Tara – His and Hers Drawers Hack
Last week, Tara showed you some tips and tricks to help you turn your bedroom into a masterpiece. This week, she’s showing you how to create the pièce de résistance! You won’t believe what this very expensive-looking set of drawers is made from but here’s a hint: perceptions can be deceiving, because this dresser was a lot cheaper to make than you might think!

Dr Harry – Koala Trackers
Dr Harry is meeting some cute canines on a very important mission: saving our precious koalas! On the mid-north coast of NSW, Ryan Tate and his hero hound, Taylor, sniff out injured koalas and bring them to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital for care. Over the past eight months, bushfires have devastated our koala population and their numbers are in steep decline…so Ryan and Taylor’s work is now more important than ever! Dr Harry’s here to see Taylor in action and to meet the Conservation Canine Brigade’s newest recruit: a puppy named Dash.

Melissa – Field Of Flowers In A Pot
Nothing says ‘spring’ quite like bulbs in bloom, so this week Melissa’s showing you how to create some amazing pots of colour for your front doorstep. For inspiration, she’s travelling to a nursery in the Dandenong Ranges that specialises in bulbs where, right now, there are fields of daffodils and other spring bulbs as far as the eye can see. Melissa’s meeting the owner, Tim, to find out his expert tips and showing you how to create the same look on a much smaller scale at your place.

James – Tech – 3D Printing
3D printing may sound cool, but it can’t really make a difference to your everyday life…right? Think again! 3D printing has gone mainstream and it can help with everything from fixing your letterbox to duplicating hard-to-find DIY and carpentry pieces. James is heading to a 3D printing studio to find out all about the process and, while he’s there, he’s using the printer to help him out with a home maintenance job that many of us have encountered.

7pm Friday on Seven.
