Hot Tip: I’m a Celebrity heading north

Industry chatter suggests 10 reality show is headed to Northern NSW for Season 7.

TV Tonight understands I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here is heading north for its 7th season, to film at the site near Murwillumbah, NSW, normally used by the UK series.

The 10 production is naturally unable to film in South Africa due to ongoing restrictions around COVID-19 but the good news is it has hatched a plan to return safely for 2021.

The UK production has also relocated to Welsh castle Gwrych Castle for this year, although the German series also usually films in Australia.

The site is off Dungay Creek Road, north of Murwillumbah, and less than an hour from the Gold Coast. Despite those huge international costs, 10 traditionally wanted the series in Africa because it felt the celebrities would be more fearful of African animals than Aussie, a strategy that has certainly worked for the show. South African labour costs are also likely to be cheaper than Aussie rates.

The site also includes a treetop host set (see video).

The move means Julia Morris & Dr. Chris Brown will need to swap the jungle script for a (sub-tropical) rainforest, and Tucker Trials for Bushtucker Trials. But 2020 has been a helluva curveball and getting the show safely in the can will be a major achievement, wherever it is staged.

10 would not confirm the speculation (on a show that is all about speculation) only confirming the show would indeed return in early 2021.

  1. I really don’t mind where they film I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. It is a great show and I hope it comes back. And it would be good to film in Australia because it would be good for the economy.

  2. i thought maybe they would attempt to recreate the format as a pre recorded show. would require a complete rethink of the format but would go a long way in de-risking it. what would have happened to Big Brother, The Block, The Bachelor, The Masked Singer, Masterchef ect were filmed live or in real time, the non-live format is what saved them? If NSW goes into stage 4 during filming it might have to be taken off air mid season?

  3. Well they were never going to be attacked by a Tiger or Lion, so I think have some of the deadliest snakes and spiders in the world could be worse, hahaha

    1. It’s true. Our crocs, snakes and insects can give South Africa’s a run for their money lol. Im just trying to picture a local UK version of the show. The scariest thing would be the cold.

    1. Not to mention that a lot of celebs wouldn’t have made a lot of money through the pandemic. No touring musicians, no theatre, movie and TV shutdowns. I’d say more people would jump at the chance to make some coin and get their face out there to boost their profiles right now.
