Seven’s AFL: Rounds 13 – 17

Your guide to the next month of AFL games on Seven.

Seven has given an update on the next 5 rounds of AFL, starting with this weekend’s historic double-header at TIO Stadium that includes Saturday night’s marquee Dreamtime in Darwin match between traditional rivals Essendon and Richmond.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport Lewis Martin commented: “With the 13th-placed Gold Coast Suns only a game and a half outside the top eight, the battle for finals spots will be on for young and old over the next five rounds. Virtually every match on Seven will have ramifications for the finals race and fans will see history made when the Northern Territory hosts a trio of blockbusters in little over a week, starting with this weekend’s prime-time double-header in Darwin and finishing with the Heart of the Nation game in Alice Springs next Saturday night. In keeping with season 2020, it promises to be a wild and unpredictable ride.”

Darwin fittingly becomes the centre of the AFL universe on Friday night as Sir Doug Nicholls Round gets underway on Seven with a clash between two of the competition’s most exciting emerging teams, Gold Coast and Carlton, at TIO Stadium.

The following night the spotlight again shines on the Northern Territory capital as it hosts one of the competition’s most iconic fixtures, the annual Essendon-Richmond Dreamtime game. With the Bombers desperate to keep their finals dreams alive and the Tigers eyeing a top-four launchpad for their premiership defence, the stakes are huge for both teams.

But first everyone’s favourite footy show, The Front Bar, will get Round 13 started in style on Thursday night, when Carlton/Adelaide great Eddie Betts and one of the game’s true legends Kevin Sheedy join Andy, Mick and Sam at 8.30pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7plus.

And the round’s Live and Free action will finish with a bang when top-four contenders Brisbane Lions and St Kilda do battle at the Gabba on Sunday.

But this is just the start of a phenomenal five rounds of footy on Seven, which will take fans up to the final round of the home and away season, the ‘floating’ round 18 fixture.

Over the condensed Round 14-17 schedule, Seven will show four matches a weekend across its traditional Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday timeslots, with every match set to have a bearing on the finals race.

And on Thursday nights during this stretch viewers are in for a post-game treat, with The Front Bar to follow the football at the special time of 9.30pm AEST, allowing fans to unwind after the final siren and have a laugh at the lighter side of the game with Mick Molloy, Sam Pang and Andy Maher.

The Northern Territory will again play a starring role in Round 14 when Alice Springs’ TIO Traeger Park hosts this year’s Heart of the Nation game between Melbourne and St Kilda under lights next Saturday (August 29).

Round 14 is chock-full of crunch games, with footy fans also set to enjoy:
• Richmond v West Coast Eagles, Thursday night
• Western Bulldogs v Geelong, Friday night
• Carlton v Collingwood, Sunday

And the following three rounds promise to be just as action-packed, with the Live and Free blockbusters including:
• GWS Giants v Carlton, Round 15, Thursday night
• Brisbane Lions v Collingwood, Round 15, Friday night
• Geelong v Essendon, Round 16, Sunday
• St Kilda v West Coast, Round 17, Thursday night
• Geelong v Richmond, Round 17, Friday night
• GWS Giants v Melbourne, Round 17, Saturday night

As always, viewers in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia will be able to watch every game involving their local AFL teams on Seven.

And post-match on Friday nights, Adam Cooney and Cam Luke will settle in on the Armchair Experts sofa, offering viewers their unique take on the big match.

One Response

  1. It’s good to see that there are AFL fixtures for Alice Springs and Cairns. It’s unfortunate that it took the health crisis for the contingencies, but it’s good for the increasing number of NT and Far North Queensland Australian rules football fans and supporters.
