The Cry producers to open Melbourne office

Glasgow-based Synchronicity Films which produced (The Cry), is opening a Melbourne production office, Synchronicity Australia.

Former BBC Drama Development Producer Ruth Underwood has been hired to head up the new branch, which has secured noir thriller Ash Mountain as its debut project.

The book by Helen FitzGerald (The Cry) was published in March in Australia and in the UK tomorrow. It is a portrait of small-town life in rural Victoria, where a catastrophic bushfire changes things forever.

Claire Mundell, Founder and Creative Director at Synchronicity Films, said, “A key goal for Synchronicity is to expand our production reach so we can focus on truly universal stories with global appeal. Having spent a considerable amount of time in Australia filming The Cry we feel a real affinity with the country, so it’s a natural place for us to set up a new office to originate projects.”

Synchronicity partnered with December Films to produce The Cry, which won AACTA and Logie Awards.

  1. This seems like a bold, even insensitive move, given small Victorian Production Companies are struggling to stay afloat in the current climate. Would seem only fair that they get in line, way behind the locals, for Agency funding I would think.

    That aside, The Cry was excellent.
