Veteran US actor Wilford Brimley, best known for Cocoon, The China Syndrome & The Waltons, has died aged 85.
He died in intensive care unit in St. George, Utah, his manager said, having been on dialysis and suffering multiple medical issues.
Brimley was a regular character on The Waltons as Horace Brimley from 1974 – 1977, recreating the role for Kung Fu in 1975.
His film career spanned from 1968 – 2017 and included Cocoon, Tender Mercies, Absence of Malice, Brubaker, The China Syndrome, The Electric Horseman, True Grit, The Natural, Hotel New Hampshire, The Firm and In & Out.
Television credits included Our House, The Oregon Trail, Walker Texas Ranger, Seinfeld and Homicide: Life on the Street.
He became the face Quaker Oats, and cautioned Americans about diabetes for the American Diabetes Association.

Yes, I’m surprised he wasn’t older. I remember the series Our House with Deidre Hall. Wilfred played either her father or father in law. R.I.P
RIP. There was a time in the 80s when he seemed to be in every movie.
I’ll never get over the fact that he was only 50 years old in ‘Cocoon’.
