With networks recently getting concerned about the post 9.30pm switch off (ABC not commissioning new content in that timeslot, others clearly also going to repeats) the fact that 7.30pm now appears to be the switch-off is most concerning.
In a time of mandatory lockdown in the second biggest city, middle of winter across the continent and generally peak viewing figures the fact that audiences are so low must be terrifying – and credit where due, You Tube, Netflix, Stan, Disney, etc have all sold their wares effectively.
I anticipate absolutely brutal free to air numbers when Summer comes and people can hopefully stick their heads out of quarantine as well.
I did expect numbers to rise with Melb under curfew, and have noted in ratings reports. We should note not all reality shows are continuing beyond Tuesday but on the whole they remained stable where I thought they might have risen. ABC has seen some benefit through alternative shows. AFL on consecutive weeknights has driven some of Melb to FOX Footy. Nevertheless I thought we would see some bumper numbers and it hasn’t happened.
I’m not surprised regarding the AFL as much as i love my Footy. To be on every day nope not for me.I enjoy the traditional Friday Saturday and Sunday games. If my team is playing i will watch it on any alternative day but even then still not a fan of it.I watch plenty of Football on those preferred days, but then i feel i want to watch alternative programming for the rest of the time. This year is a strange one hopefully will return to normality next year
David
can you let us know how many viewers of AFL in Adelaide on ch 7? thanks
Sure, 112,000.
Update: A Nine coding error left Melbourne numbers out of RBT and Emergency.
