ABC appoints Head of Content for Regional & Local

Senior role oversees Back Roads, Gardening Australia, Landline, Offsiders & NYE events.

ABC has appointed former Executive Editor at The Guardian, Lee Glendinning, as the Head of Content Curation & Platforms in its Regional & Local division, to manage the delivery of content to metropolitan, regional and rural audiences.

She will be responsible for ABC Regional & Local’s digital and social media output as well as managing content planning and operations, audio strategy and overseeing content quality.

Regional & Local is responsible for the corporation’s metropolitan radio stations and regional radio and news bureaux, local screen content including Back Roads, Gardening Australia, Landline and Offsiders, live events such as New Year’s Eve, Australia Day and Anzac Day and sport coverage. Its team works out of 56 metropolitan and regional locations around Australia.

Judith Whelan, Director Regional & Local, “Lee has experience in bringing the very best out of the editorial and content teams she has led – here in Australia and in the USA and Britain. She will play an important part in helping us connect more deeply with Australian communities, particularly in our cities’ suburbs and in regional centres, which is central to us delivering on our 5-Year Plan.”

Glendinning said: “I’m so thrilled to be joining the ABC which has such an important role in keeping Australians connected to one another across the country — something which is more critical than ever right now.

“I’m passionate about how we tell the real stories of Australia. This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the team working to make sure we can reach readers, listeners and viewers in a way which matters to them, in the communities where they live, and the issues they care deeply about.”

She will take up her new position, based in Sydney, later in the year.

  1. Also from Leftist media organisation, The Guardian – for regional and rural viewers. LOL! You cannot make this up. I’m sure rural audience will love having leftist ‘stories’ driven down their throats for the next five years. The ABC would be voted out if it was a democracy instead of a $1 Billion dollar tax-funded behemoth.

  2. … so let’s get this straight … the person who is going to be responsible for all the local program content b-r-o-a-d-c-a-s-t by the Australian B-r-o-a-d-c-a-s-t-i-n-g Corporation has absolutely zero experience in B-r-o-a-d-c-a-s-t-i-n-g …

    1. Comedy gold on these forums today. Let’s be thankful that the ABC isn’t running a hospital operating theatre then. Probably put someone from a mowing franchise as chief surgeon….
