Angelos Frangopoulos to oversee UK news channel

Former SKY News CEO has been appointed CEO of upcoming UK news channel.

Former SKY News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos has been appointed CEO of a new UK news channel, GB News, to launch in early 2021.

Veteran UK political reporter Andrew Neil will be the face and chairman of GB News, signalling the end of his relationship with the BBC.

The channel will rival current UK channels Sky News and BBC News.

“GB News is the most exciting thing to happen in British television news for more than 20 years,” Neil said.

“We will champion robust, balanced debate and a range of perspectives on the issues that affect everyone in the UK, not just those living in the London area.”

GB News said it hopes to create at least 120 positions, with more than 100 journalists in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Frangopoulos departed SKY News Australia in 2018 to a role with SKY in Abu Dhabi.
