Viewers expressed concern for ABC News reporter Michael Rennie this morning when he struggled during a live report.
Rennie was reporting on job losses outside the Ipswich plant of meat producer JBS, but began to struggle with his delivery.
Host Joe O’Brien then interjected.
“We’ll leave it there for the moment,” he said.
“We’ll just make sure Michael is OK there. Um, so we’ll get the cameraman to check on Michael and we’ll get our bosses there right away to make sure he’s OK.”
Rennie later took to social media to respond to a flurry of concerned tweets.
Thanks for all the concern about what happened on ABC news channel this morning. I was dehydrated and lost my train of thought. But I’m fine and I’ll be back at work tomorrow. Cheers

An ABC News spokesperson later confirmed with Yahoo he had gone home for a rest and was expected to be back for work on Friday.

I wonder why Joe said “bosses” instead of “producer” … Interesting choice of words.
Producer makes Studio 10. But Director of News, and Chief Content Officer / Exec. Vice Pres. are senior management.
Very easy to forget to drink water….coffee/tea/soft drinks…do not cut it….
Even sitting around home…water and more water…take care people
Well handled – I have turned off the news as there is too much Covid coverage but many of the ABC reporters are doing the cross multiple times through the morning or afternoon. I’m surprised this type of thing doesnt happen more often, particularly in summer
Joe is all class. As Craig, said, unflappable. Nice fellow. I thought Michael looked pale
Pleased Michael is OK. It’s a tough time for everyone. And, kudos to Joe O’Brien, he does a lot of juggling between live crosses on that morning shift and is always unflappable.
We often forget that reporters are affected by the stories they have to cover.
You could certainly hear his voice change and stammer ,glad he’s ok.
