Bye, bye Portwenn…
Martin Clunes will hang up his stethoscope in a final 10th season of Doc Martin.
Filming of the grumpy Cornish GP will begin in 2021 and air later in the year (UK).
Martin Clunes and producer Philippa Braithwaite on behalf of production company, Buffalo Pictures, said in a joint statement, “We have loved making nine series of Doc Martin. When we launched the series in 2004 we could never have imagined how much our loyal viewers would take to the grumpy Doc like they have. The series has avid fans both in the UK and throughout the world and we are thrilled that Doc Martin has topped the ratings every time.
“However, after sixteen years we now feel that the time has come to say goodbye to Portwenn. We will be making the tenth and final series in 2021 and we are very much looking forward to returning to Cornwall to film it.”
ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill said, “I just want to thank Martin and Philippa and everyone involved in Doc Martin, because it’s a brilliant, beautifully made series that has delighted audiences for many years. I am pleased that we are making series 10, and sad this will be the last, but respect their decision to bring it to a close.”
Created by screenwriter Dominic Minghella, the series airs in Australia on ABC, 7TWO and Acorn TV.

Like Death in Paradise Doc martin became the nice quirky family friendly show the British love.
I only fully watched the first two seasons which for me were the most enjoyable, the satire became too predictable as the years passed.
Fans of the show will be disappointed, but I agree that Doc Martin will be making some comeback as a Christmas special, if those fans make enough noise..
The show was never set up as a satire so I dont know what you have been watching …..
The first two season were when Minghella was show runner and writing a lot of the episodes. He left after that. And while Minghella created the TV show reboot for ITV. He has to share credit with Craig Ferguson and Mark Crowdy who created Clunes’s character Doc Martin Bamford from Saving Grace, and the two pre-quel TVMs for Sky by Simon Mayle which explained how he was a successful obstetrician to become the GP in Port Isaac, a place of his childhood, after he caught his wife cheating on him.
Nice rounded 10 years… finish on a high ….. then there will be a series of Xmas movies for the next 20 years LOL …
They have said that at least five times before, and each time they make the next series they go back on it with comments like “We have no idea where anyone got that idea from.”
Exactly – Hence my Surprise at reading this – But all good. Love the Doc!
