Locky leads to lowest-ever Bachelor finale

Ratings: He chose Irena over Bella, but did viewers choose Locky this season? Seven wins Thursday.

Sorry Locky …The Bachelor has finished at an all-time low.

The episode drew just 694,000 viewers, rising to 879,000 for the moment he chose Irena over Bella.

That’s well down on last year’s 936,000 / 1.17m featuring Matt Agnew. That’s despite Melburnians still under a curfew.

But it did win its slot, defeating 7:30 (516,000), The World’s Most Scenic Railways (390,000) and The Heights (213,000). RBT was 169,000 in 2 cities.

Gogglebox led later at 654,000 well ahead of Escape from the City (296,000), The Front Bar (290,000) and Secrets of the Tower of London (193,000).

Thursday Night NRL was 314,000 / 29,000 across the Nine network.

Seven won Thursday at 27.2% then Nine 25.7%, 10 22.7%, ABC 15.0% and SBS 9.4%.

Seven News was #1 at 1.03m / 1.01m for Seven. The Chase drew 543,000 / 338,000 then an extended Home & Away averaging 516,000. The Latest was 212,000 in 3 cities and movie: Pitch Perfect was 89,000 in 2 cities.

Nine News (952,000 / 928,000) was best for Nine then A Current Affair 633,000. Hot Seat drew 461,000 / 276,000. Paramedics was 194,000 and Botched 144,000 -both across the network.

The Project pulled 514,000 / 287,000 for 10. 10 News First was 326,000 / 205,000.

ABC News won its slot on 771,000. The Drum (192,000) and Secrets of the Museum (179,000) followed.

On SBS it was SBS World News (188,000), Untold Australia (99,000) and Mastermind (80,000).

Bluey led multichannels again at 184,000.

Today Extra: 113,000 / 72,000
The Morning Show
: 113,000 / 69,000
Studio 10: 36,000 /

  1. Locky was clearly not the best choice for the Bachelor, unlike Matt Agnew…maybe some of the ratings could be put down to COVID-19 impacts and bad surrounding programming, but the season hasn’t been as interesting as usual.

Although I am happy with Elly and Becky being Bachelorettes this year (a much better pick than Angie), I do prefer that only one of them were participating.

    1. This isn’t the first time Today Extra has beaten The Morning Show. That said, The Morning Show has won every single week since its premiere in 2007. This is one of many lustrous exemplars of Seven’s ratings attainment, despite your perpetual antagonism.

        1. There was a period in 2016 when Today Extra was uninterruptedly breathing down the neck of The Morning Show. Also, David, thank you for your clarification on continuous comments. I know you’ve asserted on an uncountable number of instances that you have no problem with fanboys but people making the same commentary is a separate topic.

          1. Yes correct…. people are obviously allowed to favour certain shows, or indeed be a champion for such. But the site does discourage repeating comments already made (which I’m at risk of doing now). Some things are harder to track than others but the point remains.

    2. Um, 7 Perth ran a special all morning on the Claremont killer verdict. There was no Morning Show in one of their best markets. Perhaps that explains the rare Today Extra victory?

Either way, good to see a breakaway from national programming with so much consolidation in the media occurring.

    3. People may be a bit over the channel 7 style morning shows. I do like Today Extra as they have a lot of retro stuff (eg interviews with old popular stars from old popular shows)

  2. I’ll admit I watched this series of The Bachelor…or more accurately…I persevered. Something was off this season, but I’m not sure what. Maybe Locky was a boring/lazy/uninspired choice as bachelor? He seemed like quite a polarising choice when the announcement was made. It shows how much these shows rely on casting – also look at Ali on the Bachelorette before Angie’s season last year. However, for me, I think the issue was the editing. Obviously no one could anticipate how COVID would disrupt everything, however, we had zero chance to connect with anyone, and therefore, no reason to care. The balance of drama vs. everything else was off. Obviously they chop/change/edit scenes to create their “story”, but it was way too obvious this time – at times it resembled a YouTube playlist. Low overall ratings, but the only show to regularly beat The Block to #1 in some of the demos

  3. Locky was such a bad choice for the bachelor and it shows in the ratings. I think there may be abit of bachelor fatigue too. As soon as i heard it was locky i did not watch 1 episode. The girls also looked pretty bad from the ads.

It will be Interesting to see how the bachelorette goes coming soon I will tune in for that!

  4. He’s not the marrying type ,in a few weeks it’ll be the usual we’ve decided to go our separate ways but remain close friends and wish each other the very best for the future.

    1. He said he was in love with both of them-a bit hard to believe. Also the girls both said they were either in love or falling in love. Or they say I love so and so. All a bit hard to believe.

  5. Hmm I wonder if we should be saying “because of Melbourne lockdown” instead of “despite of” As a Melbournian, I don’t think anyone’s really flicking on FTA when there’s so much quality streaming

    1. But Melbourne figures are up to 100,000 higher than Sydney for some shows. Odd how Home & Away rated 147,00 for both Sydney and Melb. In our house ‘Locky/Lockie’ drew more “Ugh”s than “Aah”s from the female 20-somethings. I find the whole concept of these (Bachelor) type shows questionable. Feel for the girl who was dumped. Hope the production company provided support.

  6. How can Studio 10 possibly keep going with numbers like that one? Only 36,000 viewers compared to 113,000 for Today Extra and The Morning Show. Maybe shortening the show to 2.5 hrs would help improve its ratings. Four hours is just way too long.

    1. Yes length of Studio 10 is an issue but also content. First few episodes of the new version were full of air. That is there was little of substance. It’s fine to be a feel good show but you actually have to talk about something.

  7. The result was widely leaked which didn’t help. The first few eps were fun, didn’t bother with the lockdown stuff, just lost interest really
