A sixth sound stage is planned for construction at Docklands Studios in Melbourne.
Film Victoria CEO Caroline Pitcher told Matt Deaner from Screen Producers that COVID-19 had not slowed down plans.
“It’s surprisingly not delayed much at all. We’re very close to selecting a builder for Sound Stage Six. The design and the architecture has not been compromised since day one, nor the infrastructure spend,” she said.
“We would be hoping to break ground by mid to late October this year and hopefully we’ll have a great production shooting a year after. 2021 October is the target date for that.
“We’ve got to look at (whether) there are any other waves of Coronavirus that are going to slow that down.”
Last month Docklands was the site of a COVID breakout on The Masked Singer.
