No warning ahead of ABC report

ABC News introduced what appeared to be an uplifting story ...until it got to the whipping of Kenyan locals. Warning!

Warning: Distressing vision.

Last night ABC News introduced what appeared to be an uplifting story from Middle East correspondent Eric Tlozek on how Kenya coronavirus restrictions have led to lifesaving service for women in childbirth.

Most of it was just that.

Except that in the middle of the report were scenes of a Nairobi curfew in which authorities could be seen whipping locals who were breaching it.

ABC neglected to warn viewers about some of the vision.

A cultural divide perhaps, but a reminder to please alert your audience.

  1. One of the issues with news broadcasts, ABC anyway is that the news has an ambiguous or no classification at all. Is it supposed to be G, PG, M or MA? Who knows and it’s open to interpretation what is suitable, offensive and appropriate, and the reasons why. It might be time to bring in news programming classifications.
