Plate of Origin’s 3 hr finale

In the biz it's known as 'burning off.'

In the biz it’s known as ‘burning off.’

Plate of Origin will wrap with a 3hr marathon on Tuesday September 22. The show is out next Monday due to AFL in some markets.

Seven will screen both the semi-final and grand final back to back, which will doubtless be one night of low ratings instead of two.

Where the show -and more to the point its handsomely paid judges- go from here is anyone’s guess.

It’s the semi-final as four teams dig deep into their heritage to present a “Classic” dish. Then two teams go head-to-head to win the $100k prize money and prove that their cuisine is the best.

7:30pm Tuesday September 22 on Seven.

  1. This was rushed, no real food talent just home cooks, its was too much like MKR, contestants slamming other “countries” food, I turned off the first night as soon as the “french” team made comments about the Australians. We are a melting pot of countries with no one cuisine better then the other. However the judges didn’t help, they all needed a “rest” after their respective shows, would have given 7 time to think about a format. Manu was tarnished by MKR.

  2. I still can’t get past the fact that they went ahead and called it Plate of Origin. You can’t have a cooking show that abbreviates to POO! Who in their right minds thought that was a good idea?

  3. POO just seemed to have no atmosphere, when they enter the Masterchef kitchen it has presence itself and the camera zooming in as they enter and the judges waiting up the front, POO it was like nothing, no presence just outside indoors somewhere very strange feel, probably should bring in some new blood and ideas before they try something else.

  4. Apart from MKR seven can’t seem to get a cooking show to fire restaurant revolution Hell’s Kitchen POO and zumbo which only got a second series because of Netflix all failed hopefully they can get matt and gary a new show that works but you couldn’t blame them if they gave up on the cooking shows and concentrated on their shows that do work

  5. When 7 says 3 hours that really means 3 and a half to 4 hours!!!!!
Their reality shows have never finished at advertised time.
Will be chock full of adverts and drag on and on and on! Nobody is going to watch this snooze fest. Lowest ever ratings for a reality final?

    1. “Why is it a surprise this show was going to flop? It’s a channel seven reality tv show they never learn that their shows just aren’t good !”
Are you convinced of that? Let’s find out. “Dancing with the Stars”, “Australia’s Got Talent”, “The X Factor: Australia”, “My Kitchen Rules”, “It Takes Two”, “Farmer Wants a Wife”, “Big Brother”. Whilst majority of these shows were made by a production company, they facilitated ratings triumph.

  6. This show was always going to flop. It just didn’t have that much appeal. Maybe Seven could buy the rights to Top Chef. Would seriously love to see an Aussie version of that show but it has never eventuated. They’ve got the judges for it. It’s probably too late though as the series has been out forever but you never know.

    1. Masterchef tried a “Top Chef” version it didn’t quite work, Preston and Pierre White hosted. Been re watching Top Chef on Netflix who have released the first 4 seasons, the show has evolved and took 4 seasons to find its feet. the calibre of chefs, egos and temperaments across the 4 seasons is a fun watch.

  7. I would think they would look at getting a show in India or Asia where they are superstars. As for Manu, back to AG T I suppose after 2 flops in a few months of each other

  8. $100k is pretty good remuneration for the winner, in this format they only had to make a handful of dishes throughout the whole competition.
MKR, The Block and MC are grueling schedules that lasts months and some seasons the winner still only pockets $100k.
